Restaurant catches fire in city
A fire broke out at a restaurant in the city’s Jatrabari area early today (September 11, 2022).
The fire broke out at ‘Urbane restaurant’ in north Jatrabari around 6am, said Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of (Media cell) of fire service and civil defence headquarters.

On information, ten firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control at 8am.
The origin of the fire and the extent of damages could not be known immediately, said Anwarul.

Businessman shot dead in Rajbari
Miscreants gunned down a businessman at a tea stall in Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday evening, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Ariful Islam, 25, son of Abdur Razzak of Khankhanapur’s Sardarpara in the upazila and poultry businessman.
Local Abul Kalam said Ariful was sitting on a bench at a tea stall in front of Suraj Mohini Institute High School nearby Khankhanapur Union Parishad around 6pm.
A group of miscreants on two motorbikes from Khankhanapur Bazar shot him dead, he said.
He sustained bullet injuries in the head and chest causing immense bleeding, local Kalam depicted.

Shawkat Hasan, inspector of Khankhanapur police investigation centre, said they have been working to unearth the reason for the murder and identify the killers.
He also said they collected some samples from the spot where higher ups officers, including superintendent of police, visited.
Couple meets tragic end in Chandpur road crush
A man and his eight-month pregnant wife were killed in a collision between a speeding truck and a CNG-run-auto rickshaw in Kachua upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Waz Uddin, 30, and his wife Sabikun Nahar, 24 - residents of Baraiara village under Sarchar union in the upazila.
Ibrahim Khalil, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kachua police station, said the accident occurred around 2pm when the goods-laden speeding truck rammed into the auto rickshaw carrying the couple from the opposite direction, leaving the duo critically injured.
They were rushed to Upazila Health Complex where on-duty physicians declared them dead on arrival, he said.

The couple met the tragic end on their way to home after a doctor’s visit on the Kachua-Sachar-Dhaka road in Hatmuda area, the OC said.
Though the truck could be seized, its drier managed to flee the spot, the police officer said.
Sachar Union Parishad Chairman Ali Akkas Molla said the number of such accident on the busy road is increasing alarmingly claiming lives and properties day bay day.
Immediate measures should be taken to lessen such accidents, he added.
5 inc. three children, burnt in gas cylinder accident in Dinajpur
Five individuals, including three minor children, sustained burn injuries in a fire that erupted as gas was being transferred carelessly cylinder from one cylinder to another in Birganj upazila in the district on Saturday.
The injured have been identified as Jahidul Islam, his wife Shahana Begum, their 13-year-old son Joy, three-year-old daughter Lamia and their neighbour’s five-year-old son Saidur Rahman.
Of the injured, the children have been undergoing treatment with back injuries at M Abdur Rahim Medical College in the upazila after taking first-aid from Upazila Health Complex.
Witnesses said a fire broke out suddenly as Jahidul was transferring gas from a bigger cylinder to a smaller one at his house in Centerpara area around 2pm, leaving the five critically injured.

Locals first rushed them to the Upazila Health Complex and later three of them shifted to the medical college for better treatment, they said.
However, it could not be ascertained immediately how much percentage of the burn the injured received.
Meraj Ali, station in-charge of Birganj Fire Service and Civil Defense, said transforming gas from one cylinder to another without experience is high risky and the reason for the accident worked this factor.
Subrata Kumar Sarkar, officer-in-charge Birganj police station, said they heard about the matter and were looking into it.
Madrasa teacher sued for raping minor girl in Magura
A madrasa teacher was sued in a case filed over the rape of a third-grader in Shalikha upazila of the district on Saturday.The accused is Israel Mollah, 55, an assistant teacher of Bahar Bag Abediya Dakhil Madrasa of Magura Sadar Upazila.A case was filed at Shalikha police in this regard following a complaint lodge by the victim's mother Faziron Begum, said Bisharul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station.According to the case statement, the 8-year-old victim went to Israel's house to bring fish kept in his fridge on Friday noon.

Later, the victim’s mother filed a complaint over the matter, added the statement.
Couple's decomposed bodies recovered from flat in N’ganj
Police recovered the half-decomposed bodies of a man and his wife from a multi-storey building in Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Rabiul, son of Abu Taleb of Nilphamari district and Lucky Das, daughter of Anil Das of Bandarban district. However, on June 14, Lucky Das converted to Islam and changed her name to Ayesha Siddiqa.
Shahadat Hossain, the owner of the house, said the couple rented his flat on August 1. However, he did not ask them anything about which district they lived in or what their profession is.
As a bad smell started spreading around from their flat, other tenants of the house told me about it and later I informed the police, the house owner added.

Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station said they recovered the bodies from a flat of the five-storey building after being informed by the owner of the house Saturday at noon.
They might have committed suicide by drinking pesticides together, added the OC.
The bodies were sent to Narayanganj Sadar General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
However, the exact cause of death can be ascertained only after getting the autopsy report, he said.
RAB arrests 12 pirates with arms in Ctg
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained twelve members of a notorious pirate gang from different areas of the Bay and Chattogram’s Banshkhali upazila on Saturday.
The arrestees are - Anwar, Liakot, Monir, Abul Khair, Nabir Hossain, Nezamuddin, Humayun, Shahed, Saddam, Atik, Emran and Amanullah.
The elite force also recovered a boat, 3 one-shooter guns, one Chinese axe, 16 daggers and knives, a binocular, six lights, 2 hand-mics, 70 mobile phones, fishing nets and Tk 5,700 in cash from their possession, said a media release on Saturday.
Rangpur farmers block highway demanding urea
Farmers of Pirganj upazila in Rangpur blocked the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway demanding urea fertilizer for around an hour causing immense suffering to the commuters on Saturday.
Sources said several hundred farmers from different areas of the upazila gathered on the highway in Pirganj Bazar area to press home their demand, which caused a huge tailback on the both sides of the busy road.
Like many other farmers, Ahsanul Hoque, Nasir Uddin and Kabirul Islam said they failed to manage the urea fertilizer despite desperate efforts for the past ten days.
“We planted aman paddy seedlings around ten days late compared to normal using alternative source of water due to the drought like situation. These saplings won’t grow properly if we don’t get the fertilizer in time,” they apprehended.
“We will go for a tougher movement unless the problem is resolved immediately,” they threatened.
The agitating farmers accompanied by general people left the road following an assurance of the local administration to address the problem as soon as possible.
Mahbub Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pirganj police station, said the farmers withdrew the blockade paving the way for normal traffic following assurances by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer to address it.
Circular speedboat service inaugurated in Dhaka
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Zahid Ahsan Russel jointly inaugurated a circular speedboat service in the capital on Saturday.
The service consists of five speedboats which will ply a circular route. Initially, the speedboats will ply the Tongi/Abdullahpur-Kodda and Tongi/Abdullahpur-Ulukhul (Kaliganj) routes. Later, the Kodda-Gabtoli and Gabtoli-Sadarghat routes will also come under the service depending on demand from the commuters.
The fare for the Tongi/Abdullahpur-Kodda route has been set at Tk 150 while fare for the Tongi/Abdullahpur-Ulukhul (Kaliganj) route has been set at Tk 120. It’ll take only 25 minutes and 19 minutes respectively to reach these two destinations through the speedboats.

Speaking as the chief guest, Khalid urged the industrialists and factory owners not to pollute the rivers surrounding Dhaka city through discharging industrial waste into them.
“Our existence will be at risk if we can’t save the rivers. Among the 10,000 river routes of the country, 7,000 routes have been made navigable under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. I think it’s a great achievement,” said Khalid.
Besides the speedboat service, the state ministers also inaugurated an eco park of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) built at the Tongi river port.
Md Mustafa Kamal, Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, Commodore Golam Sadek, Chairman of BIWTA, Md Shafiqul Islam, Chief of River Police, Molla Nazrul Islam, Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) and Anisur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gazipur, among others, were present on the occasion.
Bangladesh, US host 46th Indo-Pacific Army Management Seminar Monday
The four-day 46th Indo-Pacific Army Management Seminar (IPAMS) 2022, hosted by Bangladesh Army and US Army Pacific, will begin at a Dhaka hotel Monday.
The IPAMS is one of the preeminent army engagements that provide a forum for senior military leaderships from the Indo-Pacific regional land forces to exchange views and ideas on peace and stability.
The objective of the 46th edition of the seminar is to promote peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific through mutual understanding, dialogue, and friendship.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the seminar as the chief guest using an online platform, according to the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate.

The 46th edition of IPAMS sessions will focus on "robust peacekeeping," "women empowerment," and "land power in regional cooperation."
Delegates from 26 countries, headed by senior military leaders, will join the seminar, which will end on September 15.
The junior and non-commissioned officers from the participating countries will attend a session on leadership challenges.
The delegates will have the opportunity to visit one of the camps of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals in Cox's Bazar.
The IPAMS participation has grown from nine nations at the first conference held in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1977, to 31 nations in South Korea's Seoul in 2017.
Bangladesh is co-hosting the seminar for the third time. Previously Bangladesh co-hosted the event in 1993 and 2014.
