PM unveils book titled ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib er Bhashon’
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday unveiled a book titled ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib-er Bhashan’, a compilation of 58 speeches of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
She unveiled the cover of the book composed by chairman of Palli Sanchay Bank and former senior secretary Md Akram-Al-Hossain at her official residence Ganobhaban.
The premier wrote the introduction of the book, which also included the QR code of the full audio version of every speech. Mowla Brothers published the book.

Composer Md Akram-Al-Hossain and Mowla Brothers owner Ahmed Mahmudul Haque were present at the book launching ceremony.
The publisher of the book said the speeches of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are invaluable elements of history. His speeches reflect his struggling life on the one hand and highlight the glory of sacrifice of Bengali nation and desire for freedom, he said.
“Bangabandhu's speech is a bright document of economic, political and cultural freedom of Bengalis,” said Mahmudul Haque.

As a result of Bangabandhu's historic strong speech on March 7, 1971, an independent Bangladesh emerged through a long nine-month war of liberation. Bangabandhu was acclaimed with the title of 'Poet of Politics' in the international arena due to the historic speech. Later, UNESCO recognized the speech as 'Documentary Heritage' by incorporating it in the Memory of the World International Register (MOW), he said.
His speeches included in this book will guide the political, economic and cultural freedom of not only the people of Bangladesh but also the people of the whole world, he said.
Bangladesh to play strong role at COP28, hopes Environment Minister
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md. Shahab Uddin on Monday said as always, the Bangladeshi delegation will play an effective and strong role in this year's COP28 conference.
“The delegation of Bangladesh will play an effective role in various issue-based discussions in the conference on behalf of least developed countries and countries that are very endangered and vulnerable due to climate change,” he hoped.
The minister said this in a meeting with journalists organised marking the 28th World Climate Change Conference at the ministry.
He said, "Loss and Damage Fund Operationalize" and fix its "Detailed Arrangement" issues to be discussed in the COP-28 to continue from November 30 to December 12 this year in Dubai of United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The minister hoped that Bangladesh will play a strong role in doubling adaptation financing, frameworking for Global Goals on Adaptation, ensuring $100 billion per year by 2025 by developed countries to combat climate change in developing countries, and finalising the definition of climate finance.
Shahab Uddin said that a position paper has already been prepared with the opinion of prominent climate experts of the country and related ministries and organisations in order to highlight the position of Bangladesh in the COP28 conference. Like the previous COPs, Bangladesh has set up a pavilion of 152 square meters in the COP28 conference and organised various side events there.
Moderated by Bangladesh Climate Change Journalist Forum (BCJF) President Kawsar Rahman, Deputy Minister for the ministry Begum Habibun Nahar, Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Environment and Climate Change) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, BCJF General Secretary Motahar Hossain, Joint General Secretary Masudul Haque and Senior Journalist Nikhil Chandra Bhadra, among others spoke at the event.
48-hour hartal: 17 arson attacks reported till Monday evening
At least seventeen arson attacks were recorded till 6 pm on Monday during the 48-hour hartal called by BNP, Jammat and some like-minded parties.
A total of 17 vehicles were set on fire by miscreants during this time and four of those were set on fire inside Dhaka city, said Talha Bin Zashim, station officer of Fire Service and Civil Defense Media Cell.
Meanwhile, one arson attack was reported in Dhaka division, seven in Rajshahi, four in Chattogram, and one in Mymensingh division.

Ten buses, six trucks, one covered van, one CNG-run autorickshaw and three carriages of a train were burnt during this period.

A total of 156 members of 31 firefighting units worked to douse the fires across the country during this period, added the fire officer.
So far, 195 arson attacks have been reported from October 28 to 6pm on November 20 across the country.
‘Burimari Express’ to be inaugurated by PM on Dec 1
The commercial operations of a new train service, the ‘Burimari Express’, on Dhaka-Burimari route will start from December 1, railway authorities said on Monday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the train service on that date.
The railway authorities decided to run the train service to ease the movement of tourists, businessmen and local people.
Already, five coaches of ‘Burimari Express’ train reached Lalmonirhat on Sunday and Monday in two phases.
Rail communication between Dhaka and Ctg-Sylhet partially suspended as freight train derails in B’Baria
Following the long-cherished demand of the residents of Lalmonirhat, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made a pledge to launch inter-city train services on October 19, 2011 while addressing a public rally held at Patgram Jashim Uddin Government College ground.
Local people said a train from Lalmonirhat, the ‘Lalmoni Express’ is operating in the district but it is not sufficient for the residents.
The residents of four upazilas of the district and those who travel to India through Burimari land port have been deprived for long from the train services. As a result, they have to depend on buses to communicate.
Abdul Momin, a resident of Burimari Chilar Bazar, said the suffering of people will end through the opening of the inter-city train service.
Sumon Mia, a businessman who used to go to India on a regular basis, said “A number of passport holders and traders used the route and the train service will play an important role in expanding the business between the two countries.”
20 special trains running ahead of PM’s Khulna rally
Jahangir Alam, assistant commercial officer of Lalmonirhat Railway, said already five coaches of the train reached Lalmonirhat Station and the rest will come soon.
The train will leave Lalmonirhat station from 9:10 am every day of the week, except Wednesday, he said.
Contempt of court: Security Secretary, IG Prisons summoned to Appellate Division
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday summoned Secretary of the Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs Md Abdullah Al Masud Chowdhury and Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General ASM Anisul Huq to appear before it on December 4.
They have been summoned to explain why the Supreme Court's verdict on the promotion of six prison officers has not been implemented.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan, passed the order following a separate petition filed for contempt of court.

The court also fixed December 4 for hearing five more separate petitions filed in contempt of court.
Advocate Ibrahim Khalil appeared for the petitioners in the court and Advocate Shafiqul Islam appeared for the jail authorities.
On April 22 last year, the Appellate Division ruled on a review petition filed by six prison officials regarding their promotion. The court directed the respondents to consider the promotion of applicants (six jail superintendents) at the earliest in the light of the Officers and Staff (Department of Prisons) Recruitment Rules, 1984.

On September 27 last year, five officials, including promotion aspirant Md Nurunnabi Bhuiyan, filed five separate petitions for contempt of court for not implementing the verdict's directive.
Youth killed by lynch mob on suspicion of stealing in Bogura
A crazed mob lynched a 17-year-old youth to death suspecting him of stealing in Kazi Nuril village under Sadar upazila of Bogura on Sunday night.
The deceased Joy Miah was son of Swadhin Miah of Baroipara village under Shakharia union of the upazila.
Locals said victim Joy entered the house of one Montu in the Kazi Nuril village around 9:30 pm.
Spotting Joy, Montu screamed out by calling him chor (thief) while Montu’s elder brother Ashraful also came out of the house.
Sensing this, Joy climbed up to a jackfruit tree in the house but the two brothers gave a good thrashing after bringing him down the tree, the locals said.
At one stage, locals also beat him up which led to his death, they said.
Saihan Waliullah, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station, said on information they recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Accused Montu and his brother Ashraful fled away from the village, he said, adding that legal actions will be taken in this regard.
5 BNP leaders, four in absentia, sentenced to 10 years jail in Rangpur subversion case
A Rangpur court on Monday sentenced five BNP men including district and city unit member secretaries Anisur and Mahfuz to 10 years in jail in a subversion case filed around 10 years back.
Rangpur Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 Judge Krishna Kanta Roy also fined the convicts Tk 10, 000 each, in default they will have to serve six more months’ jail, said the court’s public prosecutor Abdus Sattar.
The convicts are district unit BNP Member Secretary Anisur Rahman Laku, city unit Member Secretary Advocate Mahfuz-Un-Nabi, city unit Jubo Dal Senior Joint Convenor Jahir Alam Nayon, district unit Jubo Dal President Tarek Hasan Sohag and party activist Arif Hossain.
Of them, Mahfuz was present on the dock during the delivery of the judgment while the rest are now absconding.
Moreover, district unit BNP and Jubo Dal’s General Secretaries Raich Ahmed and Shamsul Haque Jhantu were relieved of charges in the case as they have already died.
According to the case statement, police arrested the accused when they were about to prepare for torching a bus in the field of Rangpur Polytechnic Institute on May 19, 2013, a day before beginning a shutdown called by Jubo and Swechasebak Dal.
Police also recovered 56 crude bombs and other equipment from the arrestees at that time.
A case was filed accusing the BNP men with Kotwali police station in this connection.
After completing legal procedures, the court handed down the judgment in presence of one out of the five accused on Monday.
Dengue: 5 more die; 1,197 hospitalised in 24hrs
Five more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Monday morning, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 1,554 this year.
During the period, 1,197 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to the DGHS.
A total of 4,653 dengue patients, including 904 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
So far, the DGHS has recorded 3, 02,452 dengue cases and 2, 96,245 recoveries this year.
September has so far been the deadliest month for the dengue outbreak this year with 396 fatalities and 79,598 cases, according to DGHS data.

Jubo Dao leader, 4 associates arrested from Dhaka’s Mohammadpur, Keraniganj:RAB
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five people including Adabar thana unit Jubo Dal Joint Convenor Md Rakib Sheikh from Dhaka’s Keraniganj and Mohammadpur areas on Sunday.
The other arrestees are Md. Masum, 32, Md Alamgir, 38, Md. Rasel, 38, Md. Jahangir Alam, 55.
Of them, Rakib and Jahangir were arrested from Keraniganj and the rest from Mohammadpur area.
According to a RAB media release signed by Shihab Karim, senior assistant superintendent of police at the RAB headquarters (media wing), Rakib was the mastermind of all incidents of arsons on vehicles, vandalisms, subversive activities carried out in the capital’s Mohammadpur, Adabar, Dhanmondi and New Market areas and an accused of eight cases filed with several police stations in Dhaka.
Besides, Masum, Alamgir, Rasel, Jahangir led by Jubo Dal leader Rakib carried out destructive acts in the capital’s Mohammadpur, Adabar during the blockade and hartal for the past few days, the release said.
Being tipped-off, the members of the elite force conducted drives in the Mohammadpur and Keraniganj areas on Sunday and were able to detain them.
Legal processes are underway to file cases against them with the concerned police stations, it read.
