Narsingdi, Dec 19 (UNB) - Bikalpa Dhara Joint Secretary General Mahi B Chowdhury’s ancestral house in Sreenagar upazila came under attack on Wednesday night.
Mahi’s personal assistant Abdullah Al Mamun said, the gun attack took place around 8:45pm while four to five rounds bullets were opened that left a window smashed.
Mahi B Chowdhury and his family members were not home during the attack, he added.
Yunus Ali, officer-in-charge of Shreenagar Police Station said police recovered a bullet shell from the spot. “Police are investigating the firing.”
The criminals attacked the house from behind and soon fled, the OC added.
Mahi B Chowdhury, son of Bikalpadhara President Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, is supposed to contest in the impending national election for Narsingdi-1 constituency as his party allied with ruling Awami League.
Rajshahi, Dec 19 (UNB) – Miscreants abducted a local Jubo Dal leader in Mohanpur upazila and shot him in his both legs.
The victim was identified as Bachchu Rahman, president of Mohanpur upazila unit of Jubo Dal, the youth wing of BNP, and son of Lokman Ali of Soipara village in the upazila.
Locals said a group of miscreants picked Bachchu up in a microbus from the Rajshahi-Naogaon highway in his area in the afternoon.
They took him to Achinghat in Bagmara upazila where they shot him in both begs before leaving the spot.
Locals rescued the bullet-hit Jubo Dal leader and took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Contacted, officer-in-charge of Mohanpur Police Station Abul Hossain said he was unaware of the incident.
Sirajganj, Dec 19 (UNB) – A constable has been withdrawn for allegedly misbehaving with the wife of a National Security Intelligence (NSI) official in Ullapara upazila.
The action was taken against Mukit, a constable of Ullapara Police Station, hailing from Gaibandha district.
Officer-in-charge of the police station Dewan Kawshik Ahmed said a police team launched a drive at Bonnokandi village early Wednesday to arrest Jamaat-Shibir men.
The wife of Jahangir Hossain, assistant director of NSI, was taking a video footage of the drive in her mobile phone, he said.
Sensing the matter, constable Mukit took away the device and deleted the video from her phone.
Later, Jahangir informed the matter to the police superintendent who ordered withdrawal of the policeman.
Dhaka, Dec 19 (UNB) - The Election Commission on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to withdraw the Deputy Commissioner of Gaibandha, Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur and officers-in-charge of Ramna Police Station in Dhaka, Sonaimuri in Noakhali, Bijoynagar in Brahmanbaria and Thakurgaon Sadar police station.
The EC took the decision at a meeting after complaints filed against the officials were found to be true, said EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
He said the Commission sent a letter to the Public Administration Ministry for withdrawing the Gaibandha DC Sebastin Rema and Faridpur ADC Saiful Islam, while another letter to the Inspector General of Police for removing the four OCs -- Kazi Mainul Islam of Ramna station, Abdul Majid of Sonaimuri, Kabir Hossain of Bijoynagar and Mustafizur Rahman of Thakurgaon Sadar.
Earlier, Jatiya Oikyafront candidates lodged complaints against most of the six officials demanding their removal ahead of the 11th national election slated for December 30.
Habiganj, Dec 19 (UNB) – The motorcade of the Jatiya Oikya Front candidate for Habiganj-1 Dr Reza Kibria, came under attack while he was campaigning at Banderbazar area in Nabiganj upazila on Thursday.
Former assistant organizing secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan Unit Chhatra Dal Fakhrul Islam Panna suffered serious injuries during the attack.
Terming it a ‘planned’ attack, Reza, the son of slain ex-finance minister S.A.M.S. Kibria demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the attackers.
