Six more people died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, raising the total death toll to 27, according to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
20 houses put under lockdown in Nilphamari
Twenty houses were put under lockdown as a young man found infected with coronavirus at Khalisha Bakshibari in Syedpur upazila on Thursday.
Ranjit Kumar Barban, Civil Surgeon of Nilphamari, said the man, aged about 38, returned home from Narayanganj on April 5 with fever.
Later, the local administration put him under home quarantine. On April 7, a medical team collected samples from him and sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for coronavirus test.
The authorities of Rangpur Medical College and Hospital found him infected with the virus and sent him to the isolation unit of the hospital on Thursday evening.
Later, the local administration put the house of the man and adjacent 19 other houses under lockdown.
Earlier, on April 7, a physician was found positive for coronavirus in the district.
Tablig attendee test positive for coronavirus in Keraniganj
A man who recently attended an event of Tablig Jamaat has tested positive for coronavirus at Tashura village in Nawabganj upazila.
Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex medical officer Dr Hargobinda Sarkar Anup said samples of three people were collected from the upazila on Wednesday and those were sent to IEDCR for coronavirus test.
After getting the medical test report, it was found that the man, a resident of Babuganj area of the upazila who returned from Tablig, was infected with the virus.
He was sent to Bangladesh Kuwait Friendship Hospital, he said.
Besides, a Saudi returnee in Baha union tested positive for coronavirus few days ago and he along with his family was asked to maintain home-quarantine.
