Dhaka, Sept 10 (UNB) – A delegation of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) met President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Monday.
The JKKNIU team, led by its Vice-chancellor Prof AHM Mustafizur Rahman, apprised the President of overall academic and ongoing development works and future plans.
During the meeting, the President asked the university authorities to maintain a congenial academic atmosphere on the campus.
He also stressed the importance of making students skilled in various sectors alongside the academic curricula, President Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told UNB.
Abdul Hamid assured the university delegation of providing all-out cooperation in running the university activities.
Secretaries concerned to the President were present.
Tangail, Sept 10 (UNB) – Three minor boys drowned in two ponds at Chasabhadra and Kamlaeid areas in Nagarpur upazila on Monday evening.
The deceased were identified as Tanjin, 9, son of Tofazzal Hossain and Imran Hossain, 11, son of Setab Mia of Chasabhadra area and Tamim, 3, son of Bulbul of Kamlaeid area.
Moinuddin, officer-in-charge of Nagarpur Police Station, said Tanjin and Imran went to catch fish in the local Beel (water body) and droned in the deep level water.
Sensing the matter, locals rescued them as senseless condition and taken to local hospital where the duty doctor declared them dead.
On the other hand, Tamim went to visit his grandfather house where he drowned in a pond, the OC added.
Sylhet, Aug 30 (UNB) – Akbar Hossain Kismat at Natun Bazar in Bishwanath Upazila of Sylhet district has changed his fate by setting up household dairy and rearing cattle to produce milk. Now, he has become a very successful businessman in household dairy farm sector in the upazila.
Kismat started his new voyage with just one cow. Firstly, he can earn Tk 250 to 300 per day by selling seven to eight litres of milk after meeting family milk demand. At present, he is the owner of 20 cows and built ‘Al-Hossain Dairy’ farm in his upazila.
Now he is earning Tk 45,000 to 50,000 monthly by selling 200 litres of milk from his household dairy farm. He has deployed three workers at his farm. They are very happy as they get job in their village with good earning, sources said.
During a recent visit, UNB correspondent found Kismat rearing 20 cows applying modern and easy method. There have separate store rooms for keeping straw and grass. He also built a house for his workers with a television for their entertainment.
Talking to UNB, Akbar Hossain Kismat said he has developed his household dairy farm following the high demand of cow’s milk in the upazila. He is earning a fair profit monthly by selling milk from his dairy farm.
Now he is more interested to develop his farm to fulfill the demand of cow’s milk in the upazila.
Dhaka, Sept 10 (UNB) – Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday called everyone to be alert from the frauds group who demand extortion introducing themselves as high officials of ACC, a press release said.
The fraud groups over phone call demand the big amount of money showing fake fear of allegation being brought against them (government and private officials, stuffs, businessmen, retired officers, bankers and some others officials).
ACC is a statutory organisation where there is no chance to get exemption by one person who want money for doing that. There is a prohibition to use telephone or phone call for investigation interaction. The organisation can contact by sending written letter only.

Dhaka, Sept 10 (UNB) – Law enforcers on Monday arrested five people over the alleged gang-rape of a housewife and rape of a girl in Cumilla and Faridpur districts.
In Cumilla, police arrested four people over the ‘gang-rape’ of a housewife for four days after confining her to a house of Ballavpur village in Sadar South upazila.
The arrestees are Masud Ali, 28, son of Sayed Ali, Masud, 30, son of Abdul Barek of Rajendrapur village in Sadar upazila, Hasan Miah, 26, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver and son of Saru Miah of Dhanpur area, and their accomplice Swapna Akhter, 27, wife of Shahid Miah of Ballavpur village.
Police were trying to arrest another accused, Shahid, in a case filed over the incident.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar South Model Police Station Mamunur Rashid said the victim, wife of an expatriate, was returning home at Ulurchar from her parents’ house at Suagazi by the auto-rickshaw of Hasan on September 5.
However, the three-wheeler driver took her to a house of Ballavpur village.
After confining the housewife to the house, the miscreants raped her for four days.
They also took photos of the nefarious act and demanded Tk 5 lakh from her.
The victim managed to escape from the confinement on Saturday and filed the case on Monday.
In Faridpur, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested Md Sumon Mollah alias Golzar Mollah, 35, as he allegedly raped a girl, took video clip of the heinous act and spread it on the internet.
Sumon, a mason hailing from Ramjan Matubbarpara village in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari district, was arrested from the old bus stand area of the district town.
Company Commander of Rab-8 Faridpur camp Additional Police Superintendent Md Rais Uddin said Sumon raped the victim three months back and secretly recorded it in his mobile phone.
Since then, he had been blackmailing the victim and her family demanding money and threatening to spread the video on the internet.
As the victim came to know that the video was already available on the internet, she informed it to Rab.
Two cases -- one under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the other under the Pornography Control Act -- were filed over the matter.
