ACI Crop Care Dealer Conference 2023 held in Cox’s Bazar
ACI Crop Care Dealer Conference-2023 was held today in Cox’s Bazar.
Honorable Managing Director of ACI Formulations Limited Sushmita Anis presided over the event organized by ACI Crop Care. About 250 dealers from different parts of the country as well as officials of the company’s sales and marketing department were present at the conference.
In her inauguration speech, Sushmita Anis referred to the dealers as important business channe partners. She expressed her gratitude for playing significant role in delivering ACI Crop Care’s products to farmers’ doorsteps across every part of the nation to ensure food security
During the three-day conference, around 250 top-level dealers were invited to a two-night stay at a five-star hotel in Cox’s Bazar, a tour of the district’s tourist attractions, and an intriguing cultural program. The company’s managing director awarded 48 of them for their outstanding contribution to the environment on a regional and national level.
ACI Crop Care operates as a division of ACI Formulations Limited. It mainly markets eco-friendly pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and organic pesticides.
Banglalink Youth Fest 2023 launched
Banglalink has launched the ‘Banglalink Youth Fest 2023’ initiative aimed at inspiring Bangladeshi youth to embrace technology and digital innovation as a means of self-development.
In line with the Government’s ‘Smart Bangladesh’ vision, Banglalink is striving to achieve widespread technology adoption across the country through this youth-oriented initiative. This program enables youngsters with digital assets across 115 university campuses across Bangladesh. Jamaat gets no permission for Friday’s rally
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Thursday rejected the application of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Friday, said DMP Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruq.
On August 1, the party sent a letter to the DMP Commissioner seeking permission to hold the rally. A group of the party leaders led by Abdur Razzak submitted the letter.

“We failed to hold our scheduled rally on August 1 as we did not get any permission from the authorities. So, we have decided to hold a rally on Friday at 2:30 pm at Suhrawardy Udyan. We hope we’ll get…assistance from the police ,” said Razzak while talking to reporters after submitting the letter.
DNCC bringing pesticide from Singapore to destroy mosquito larvae: Atiqul
The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will apply BTI pesticide to destroy mosquito larvae from Sunday, said DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam.
"After completing all the procedures, we were able to bring the insecticide BTI from Singapore, which destroys mosquito larvae. An expert team from Singapore will talk to the Health Department of the DNCC on Friday and Saturday,” he said on Thursday.
“Our officials will learn from the expert team how the BTI pesticide will be mixed, how and where it will be used. The pesticide BTI will be applied in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area from Sunday,” he said while addressing a meeting on reviewing the activities taken to prevent dengue at the conference room of Nagar Bhaban on Thursday.

Before the start of the meeting, a public awareness rally was held from in front of Nagar Bhaban with placards containing five instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to prevent dengue.
The mayor, along with Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam, took part in the rally.
Whole world may comment on election but India has a ‘very special relationship’ with Bangladesh: MEA Spokesperson
India on Thursday said election and the democratic process in Bangladesh have to be determined as per how people of the country choose to do so.
"The whole world may comment on it but India is India and we have a very special relationship with Bangladesh," India's Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told reporters while responding to a question at a weekly briefing in New Delhi.
This was the first time India officially commented on the current situation in Bangladesh, centering the national election scheduled to be held in December this year or January next year.

The ministry of external affairs spokesperson said what happens in Bangladesh impacts them.
"Look, I think there are multiple activities going on, people are perhaps commenting on it," Bagchi said.
Of course, he added, India is closely monitoring the situation, and mentioned that they have a high commission in Dhaka.
"We hope that there is peace and no violence, and the elections are held as per plans," said the spokesperson.

On the issue of caretaker government, he said, "I certainly don't have any comment on it."
Countries including the US have been commenting on elections in Bangladesh and expressed their desire for a free, fair and peaceful election in Bangladesh.

The government of Bangladesh says it is also committed to holding a free, fair and peaceful election.
Bangladesh reports 77 more Covid-19 cases
Bangladesh reported 77 more Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours till Thursday morning.
With the new numbers, the country's total caseload rose to 2,044,641 according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case test positivity rate dropped to 2.75 per cent from Tuesday’s 3.39 per cent as 2803 samples were tested.
The recovery rate remained unchanged at 98.38 per cent. The death rate also remained unchanged at 1.44 per cent.
Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 in 2021 and highest number of fatalities of 264 on August 10 the same year.
Dengue: 10 die, death toll rises to 283 in 24 hours
Ten more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Thursday morning, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 283 this year.
During the period, 2,579 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the new patients, 1,101 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rest outside it, according to DGHS.
A total of 9,210 dengue patients, including 4,650 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

So far, the DGHS has recorded 57,127 dengue cases and 47,529 recoveries this year.
Two teenagers arrested on terrorism charges in Sunamganj get bail
A Sunamganj court on Thursday granted bail to two teenagers arrested along with 32 other people in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act while they were on a visit to Tunguar Haor in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj.
Judge Md Zakir Hossain of the Sunamganj Juvenile Court granted them bail a bond of Tk 1,000.
Earlier, on Wednesday, a Sumanganj court granted bail to 32 people including 24 students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) who were arrested during their trip to Tanguar Haor.

Judge Farhan Sadik of Judicial Magistrate Court-4 of Sunamganj passed the order.
Police detained 34 people, including 24 Buet students while they were visiting Tanguar Haor in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district on Sunday.
Rashedul Kabir, sub-inspector of Tahirpur Police Station, filed a case against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
All of them were produced before the court on Tuesday.

The accused went to Tanguar Haor around 7am on Sunday by a boat. A team of police from Tahirpur police station on two speed boats obstructed them while they were heading towards Tekerhat tourist spot and detained the students and two boatmen—Ahadul Mia and Muhaddis Mia.
Syed Iftekhar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tahirpur Police Station, said they gathered in the area in a bid to hold a clandestine meeting and tried to carry out criminal activities there to embarrass the government.
A press release, issued by Additional Superintendent of Sunamganj police (Amin) Abu Syed, said after primary interrogation it is known that all the arrestees led by Afif Anwar, Baitul Mal Affairs Secretary of Buet unit Islami Chhatra Shibir, gathered there aiming to disturb public safety and create anarchic situation through anti-government activities.

Police also seized 33 mobile phone sets, leaflets and other documents from their possession.
Labour law violation case: SC orders disposal of rule on charge framing against Dr Yunus within two weeks
The Appellate Division on Thursday directed the High Court to dispose of a rule questioning the charge framing against Nobel Laureate and Grameen Telecom Chairman Dr Muhammad Yunus and four others by lower court in a case filed over violation of labour law.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order.
Attorney General AM Amin Uddin and Assistant Attorney General M Saiful Alam appeared for the state while Advocate Abdullah Al-Mamun and Advocate Khwaja Tanvir Ahmed appeared for Dr Yunus and four others. Senior Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the Directorate of Inspection of Factories and Establishments.

Earlier, On September 9, 2021, Labour Inspector Arifuzzaman of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, filed the case with Dhaka 3rd Labour Court.
The others accused in the case are- Ashraful Hasan, CEO of Grameen Telecom Trust, trustee Nurjahan Begum and managing director M Shahjahan.
According to the case, in an inspection visit to Grameen Telecom inspectors of the department found that 101 workers and staff who were supposed to be permanent were not made so.
No participation fund and welfare fund was formed for them and five per cent of the company’s profit was not provided to the workers following the law.

Upon a complaint, a criminal case was filed under sections 4, 7, 8, 117, 234 of the Labour Act.
On October 12, the labour court granted bail to all four accused.
Later on December 7, Prof Yunus filed a petition with the High Court seeking scrapping of the case.
On December 12, HC stayed the procedure of a case for six months.
On August 17 last year, the High Court (HC) rejected a petition to scrap the case.
Later Prof Yunus filed a leave to appeal against the High Court verdict.
On June 6 this year, Dhaka Labour Court-3 framed charges against the four accused.
Dr Yunus and three others filed a petition challenging the legality of the charge framing and seeking a stay order on trial proceedings in the case.

The High Court on July 23 issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why the indictment order against the four people should not be scrapped.
Verdict was delivered against Tarique, Zubaida following regular process: Hasan
The verdict against BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman in a case over amassing illegal wealth has been delivered following normal process, said Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.
“Our government did not file this case. The case was filed by the caretaker government of BNP's choice. If our government was vindictive, we would have filed the case, and we wouldn't have to wait 14 years for a verdict, the verdict would have been delivered much earlier,” Hasan Mahmud, also Awami League Joint General Secretary, said.
He said these while exchanging views with journalists at the secretariat on Thursday afternoon.

“BNP held a press conference over the verdict. They have announced programmes today and tomorrow. But this case was not filed during our government. The case was filed during the previous caretaker government when Yazuddin was made president by Khaleda Zia,” said the minister.
Responding to BNP's reaction after the verdict, the minister said, "BNP has no faith in anything in the law and court, they do not care about anything, only go to foreigners frequently."

Replying to a question on bringing Tarique Rahman back home, the minister said, “We are in talks with the UK government.”
