Argentina’s performance so far in the 2022 World Cup
Argentina’s starting in the World Cup was a mess. They lost 2-1 to Saudi Arabia in the first match and put themselves in uncertainty. They had to win the next two matches against Mexico and Poland to progress to the last sixteen. They turned around from the second match by winning 2-0 against both Mexico and Poland to secure the second round as a topper of the group.

Australia could not stop Messi in the last sixteen, and they lost 2-1. Meeting Netherlands in the quarterfinal is going to be Argentina’s toughest match of the World Cup in Qatar so far.
The interesting thing is that in the last nine meetings between the two teams, including World Cup and friendly matches, Argentina has never defeated the Netherlands within the stipulated 90 minutes. In 2014, Argentina beat the Dutch in a tiebreaker in the semis of the World Cup in Sao Paulo. At that time, the coach of the Netherlands was Louis van Gaal who still has that moment of defeat etched in his heart.
Messi is in good form in this World Cup, and his performance will determine Argentina’s fate. However, the Argentina team has some injury issues. Di Maria missed round of 16 matches, and it is not confirmed yet if he can make it to the quarterfinal. And the latest was midfielder Rodrigo de Paul.
Although Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni is confident that De Paul will be okay. However, the decision regarding Di Maria and De Paul will come after talking to the medical team. Lautaro Martínez has been playing with an injury and taking pain-killing injections to play for his country. And he might face trouble anytime.

Netherlands’ performance so far in the 2022 World Cup
Among the top teams, the Netherlands is the first to never win the World Cup title. The Dutch had to be satisfied with being runners-up in 1974 and 1978. In the 1978 final, they lost 3-1 to the hosts, Argentina.
The Netherlands has been passed the group stage quite silently. After defeating Senegal 2-0 in the first match, they drew 1-1 with Ecuador in the second match. The Dutch played in a light mood in the last match with a 2-0 win against Qatar and reached the last sixteen. The three-time World Cup runners-up are now preparing to face Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the quarterfinals after beating the USA 3-1 in the last 16. There is no reason to doubt that this is going to be the toughest match for the Dutch at the World Cup in Qatar so far.
The Netherlands does not have any significant injury reports. Memphis Depay has improved his fitness, and he should be comfortable playing a full 90 minutes in the quarterfinal.
Netherlands’s players to watch: Virgil van Dijk, Denzel Dumfries, and Cody Gakpo.
Netherlands’ players carrying yellow cards: Matthijs de Ligt, Nathan Ake, Teun Koopmeiners, Frenkie de Jong.

Brazil is undoubtedly the favorite to advance, but Croatia has the talent and determination to pull off the upset. Let’s take a look at Brazil and Croatia match preview focusing on both teams, their strengths and weaknesses, and what to expect when they meet on the field.
Where is Brazil vs Croatia match?
Brazil and Croatia will face each other in the first match of the World Cup quarterfinals on Friday, December 9, at 6 pm local time and 9 pm Bangladesh time at Education City Stadium.
Brazil’s performance so far in the 2022 World Cup
Brazil had a great start in the World Cup 2022, except for an upset caused by Cameroon. However, they have shown excellency against South Korea in the round of 16 with a 4-1 victory. Vinicius Jr., Neymar, Richarlison, and Lucas Paqueta helped the team with one goal each. And with that smooth win, they have sailed to the quarterfinals, which will be played against Croatia.

So far, Brazil has lost only one game in this World Cup, and it was against Cameroon. In fact, it was Selecao’s first loss in 19 International games.
This will be Brazil’s 17th quarterfinal appearance in the World Cup tournament. However, Brazil’s recent quarterfinal outcomes are not satisfactory. They lost three of the last four competitions in 2006, 2010, and 2018 against France, Netherlands, and Belgium, respectively.
In other group stage matches, Brazil pulled victory over Serbia by 2-0 and Switzerland by 1-0. Richarlison and Casemiro scored in those matches.
While Brazil has a few injured players, fortunately, Neymar is back after missing the last two group-stage matches. And Danilo was also back from injury. However, Alex Relles and Gabriel Jesus will not appear in the rest of the World Cup as they suffered an injury in the last group stage match against Cameroon. Alex Sandro could potentially return after he missed the round of 16 game.
Brazil’s players to watch: Neymar, Richarlison, Vinicius Jr
Brazil’s players carrying yellow cards: Fred, Eder Militao, Bruno Guimaraes.

Croatia’s performance so far in the 2022 World Cup
Although Croatia was the 2018 World Cup runner-up, this season, their journey is not that smooth so far. They won only one group stage match, which was against Canada by a 4-1 goal. The other two matches were a draw. Also, their round of 16 matches against Japan was also a draw, but they pulled to victory by penalty.
However, captain Luka Modric and the Croatia team have been very consistent in this tournament. And Brazil may find it tough to beat them. In all their games in this World Cup, Croatia kept around 55% possession on average. So, if they can keep this with Brazil, they might get chances to keep pressure on Brazil.
Currently, Croatia is dealing with one injury issue. Josip Stanisic missed the last game against Japan due to a muscle injury, and he could miss the quarterfinals as well. Although Borna Sosa missed the game, too, he will be available against Brazil.
Croatia’s players to watch: Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic, Bruno Petković
Croatia’s players carrying yellow cards: Dejan Lovren, Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic, Borna Barisic.

Brazil vs Croatia Match Result Prediction
World Cup 2022 performance as well as the past meeting suggest that Brazil will win the game. Also, different experts picked Brazil. According to Opta Analyst’s match prediction model, Brazil has 68.2%. Chance to win the game, while Croatia has only 11.5%. However, 20.3% chance of a draw, and the result is to decide by a penalty shootout.

Zakir Hasan, 24, has been rewarded for his exceptional performance in the longer form of cricket.
He will join the Bangladesh Test squad for the first time in the Tigers' first match against India starting on December 14 in Chattogram.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the 17-member squad on Thursday evening.
Tamim Iqbal will not be a part of the squad due to a groin injury that sidelined him prior to the ODI series. In his absence, Liton Das will lead the Tigers.
Last week, Zakir put on a remarkable display by scoring 173 runs that saved an unofficial Test for the Bangladesh A team against India A in Cox's Bazar.

The left-handed batter had an outstanding performance in the last edition of the National Cricket League. He scored 442 runs at an average of over 56, a remarkable feat in Bangladesh's biggest first-class cricket event.
Zakir could be an asset for Bangladesh in the longer format of cricket. He scored over 4,000 runs from 68 first-class matches at an average of 41.52, with 13 centuries and 14 fifties. His List-A record is also impressive, with two centuries and 16 half-centuries from just 94 matches and an average of 28.86.
However, the 24-year-old has not been as successful in the T20s as in other formats, scoring 708 runs from 62 matches at an average of 17.70.
While Zakir got his maiden call-up, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taskin Ahmed and Yasir Ali made a return to the Test team. Mushfiqur missed the last series as he performed hajj; Taskin and Yasir were injured.

Which World Cup starlet can replace Messi, Ronaldo?
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are not ready to say goodbye to the World Cup just yet.
But the clock is ticking on their careers and Qatar could be the last time we see them on soccer’s biggest stage.
With that in mind, thoughts naturally turn to a new generation and life beyond two men who have dominated the sport for the past 15 years, sharing 12 Ballon d’Or awards for best player of the year and nine Champions League trophies between them.
Theirs are big shoes to fill and, to their legions of fans, each one stands alone as the greatest of all time.
So if separating Messi and Ronaldo has been difficult enough, imagine replacing them.
But life — and sport — moves on and the World Cup is the perfect stage for a new breed of would-be superstars to showcase their talent.
Not that the France striker could be described as “new.” He may only be 23 and still waiting for his first Ballon d’Or or Champions League trophy, but Mbappe is already a World Cup winner and the leading the scorer at this tournament with five goals.
He has the trophy Messi and Ronaldo crave — and in a week or so, could have two of them.
Mbappe could also have two or three more World Cups left in him, and, with nine goals over two tournaments so far, he is closing in on Miroslav Klose’s all-time record of 16 at the finals.

Qatar feels like a passing of the torch to the Paris Saint-Germain forward, who combines mesmerizing footwork with devastating speed and clinical finishing, which are the qualities that set Messi and Ronaldo apart for so long.
But to match their powers of longevity, perhaps what Mbappe requires most, is a rival to push him to greater heights.
Would Messi or Ronaldo have reached such feats of excellence without the other one driving them on?
The most obvious challenge to Mbappe right now comes from Erling Haaland, the Manchester City goal machine whose country, Norway, didn’t qualify for the World Cup.
He is a different prospect: raw power and goals, without the finesse or individual skills of Mbappe. But if it is about numbers, Haaland has the potential to go toe-to-toe with him in terms of European trophies and scoring.
The World Cup has provided less obvious competition for Mbappe.
England’s Jude Bellingham represents a different profile of player, but his dominant midfield performances have driven his country to the quarterfinals where it will meet defending champion France.
“I love playing with him, he’s young, he’s energetic, he gets around the pitch really well,” said teammate Declan Rice. “For every game that I’ve played with him so far, I’ve just said to him: This is your stage, go out and perform.”
Elsewhere, Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo has three goals and has enhanced his reputation after being linked with a transfer to Manchester United in the summer. But he is still playing his club football in the Dutch league with PSV Eindhoven, so still has work to do to be considered among the elite players.
Portugal’s Joao Felix is yet to fulfil his potential at Atletico Madrid, but has shown flashes of the talent that saw him identified as a star of the future when emerging at Benfica. He has the type of individual, game-changing qualities to see him stand out from the pack, while the chance step out of Ronaldo’s shadow for his country could help his development.
Read: FIFA World Cup 2022: Quarter Final Overview
Meanwhile, Felix’ Portugal teammate Goncalo Ramos has suddenly thrust himself into focus after his hat trick against Switzerland in the round of 16 when replacing Ronaldo in the line up.
Argentina’s Julian Alvarez looks like a natural goal scorer.
Germany’s Jamal Musiala is seen as his country’s big hope, while Spain midfield pair Gavi and Pedri are bringing back memories of the country’s all-conquering partnership of Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
But in terms of impact, influence and star appeal, none can compare to Mbappe.
Of course, Messi and Ronaldo are not done yet.
And who would put it past either one of them to add one more winning chapter to their story at this World Cup?
World Cup exit: Luis Enrique replaced as Spain coach
Luis Enrique was replaced by Luis de la Fuente as Spain’s coach on Thursday, two days after the national team was eliminated in the round of 16 at the World Cup.
Spain lost to Morocco 3-0 in a penalty shootout after a scoreless draw in regular and extra time.
The Spanish soccer federation thanked Luis Enrique, but said it was time to “start a new project” to keep the growth achieved by the coach in recent years. It said the change was made after a recommendation by its sporting officials.

The 61-year-old De la Fuente, a former left back with Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao, helped Spain’s under-19 squad win the European Championship in 2015, and the under-21 team win Euro 2019. He also coached Spain’s squad, which won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
De la Fuente had coached the senior national team once, when youth players were used in a friendly against Lithuania because the main squad had to go into isolation because of the coronavirus.
Other candidates who had been considered besides De la Fuente, who was Spain’s under-21 coach, included former Belgium manager Roberto Martínez and former Athletic Bilbao coach Marcelino García Toral.
Spain got off to a good start in Qatar, routing Costa Rica 7-0, but La Roja couldn’t win again in its last three matches. It drew 1-1 with Germany and lost 2-1 to Japan before being held by Morocco.
Luis Enrique took over the national team in 2018 to start revamping the squad after its elimination in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Russia. He temporarily left because of the illness and eventual death of his young daughter, but returned in 2019.
He helped Spain reach the last four of the Nations League twice, including this season and last year, when it lost the final to France.
Read: Japan eye more history after heroic Spain win at World Cup
He also led Spain to the semifinals of the European Championship last year, losing to Italy in a penalty shootout.
Luis Enrique’s contract ended after the World Cup. The former Barcelona player and coach had said moments after the loss to Morocco that he would take some time to rest before starting talks with the federation about his future. He said he would have liked to stay with the national team “forever,” but knew that it might not be possible.
The 52-year-old Luis Enrique, not long ago seen as one of the most uptight coaches in soccer, had opened up at the World Cup, doing streaming sessions, going on bicycle rides and talking frankly about controversial issues.
The team’s elimination in Qatar raised more questions about whether Spain should start overhauling its soccer philosophy and get rid of the “tiki-taka” ball-possession style that has not produced results recently. Luis Enrique had said he wasn’t planning to relinquish the “tiki-taka” if he remained as coach, and De la Fuente also is likely to keep it alive.
De la Fuente is expected to make his debut with the senior team when Spain resumes playing in qualifying for Euro 2024 in March next year.

Career, Performance of Miraz: An Emerging Star of Bangladeshi Cricket
When Miraz does something wonderful, the word ‘Miracle’ comes into the newspaper heading. Maybe because it matches the name. As the name is Mehidy Hasan Miraz, ‘Miraz Miracle’ means that this cricketer of the Bangladesh team has done something surprising with the ball or the bat. But whether the word ‘miracle’ is used or not, in 2022, the ‘wonder boy’ Miraz is giving birth to one wonder after another. The latest of which was seen yesterday (December 07, 2022) in the second ODI against India in Mirpur. Who is Mehidy Hasan Miraz? Let’s get to know his life and career.
Early Life and Education
Miraz was born on October 25, 1997, in Barisal. Although Miraz was born in Barisal, he grew up in Khulna with his family. He has four members in his family: father, mother, and younger sister. Father Md Jalal Hossain was an autorickshaw driver. Miraz’s father moved to Kashipur in Khulna in search of work. And Miraz started his schooling at Kahsipur school. In that school, Miraz ran around with the ball with his friends, and cricket seemed to be more addictive than reading.
Miraz has grown up under financial stress. He has been interested in playing cricket since childhood. However, he played cricket secretly as he did not get any support from his family. Miraz even had to be beaten by his father for playing cricket. But still, wonder boy had the determination to play cricket, and his mother supported him during that time.

Bangladesh was destined to lose as the Afghans were destroying the batting lineup with their string bowling performance. But Miraz turned around with Afif Hossain. He left the field winning the team after adding 174 runs with Afif at eight and added 81 unbeaten runs next to his name.
Miraz also contributed to Bangladesh’s first win on South African soil last March. He took 4 wickets in the field, which was not actually spinners-friendly.
Now he is ending the year with a bang as he contributed to Bangladesh’s win against India in two consecutive ODI matches.

Miraz’s Notable performance in BAN vs IND series in 2022 So Far
In a span of four days, Miraz played in two different matches at two different times. After a fairly easy run chase on the first day after stumbling over a dramatic collapse, Miraz came as a savior. After losing 6 wickets for 69 runs with the bat in the first ODI, Bangladesh was about to lose the game. The two situations had one thing in common, “stress.” Handling that pressure in the first match with 38 runs from 39 balls and 100 from 83 balls in the next, Miraz has shown his class. It was Miraz’s first ODI century. Although the difference with respect to numbers is many, the “Miraz Miracle” of both matches is the same, win for Bangladesh.
An eye-soothing performance like that in two consecutive matches against India can’t fail to be one of the most memorable moments of Miraz’s career. In these two matches against India, besides batting, he contributed with bowling as well. He gave the first breakthrough in the first match and got the wicket of India’s highest run scorer Shreyas Iyer in the second match as well. But at the end of the day, the batting performance should be more pleasant for him.
Although these matches might not be very large as a data set, the impact of the performance of these two matches can be extensive. As Harsha Bhogle said in a tweet after Miraz’s batting, “69-6 to 271-7 is a special effort. These could be two career-changing games for Mehidy Hasan Miraz.”

Final Words
When the team is in the worst situation, Miraz dazzles with a stunning performance. His batting is now more dependable than ever. Bowling also has the ability to do well in all conditions. After Shakib Al Hasan, if anyone can be the complete all-rounder of the Bangladesh cricket team, Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s name comes first.
