T20 World Cup: Tigers reach Sydney for battle against South Africa
After kicking off their T20 World Cup campaign with a nine-run win over the Netherlands, the Bangladesh team reached Sydney on Tuesday. The Tigers will take on South Africa in Sydney on October 27.
Taskin Ahmed, the right-arm pacer, was the star of Bangladesh in their first-ever win in the Super 12s stage of the T20 World Cups.
He bagged four wickets conceding 25 runs in four overs. Two of Taskin’s four wickets came off the first two balls of the innings— the first of such instances in the history of the T20 World Cups.
Hasan Mahmud, the other pacer, also bowled well and drew the attention of the cricket fans. He bagged two wickets conceding only 15 runs in four overs.
The Netherlands tried their best to offer Bangladesh a tough challenge, but they lost wickets on the key moments while chasing a moderate total of 144 runs, and thus, they were never in a position to take the match away from Bangladesh’s grab.
While batting, Afif Hossain was Bangladesh’s main star. He scored 38 off 27 balls. He helped the Tigers to surpass the 140-run mark. Mossaddek Hossain’s cameo of 20 off 12 deliveries also helped the Tigers.
Now the Tigers take on the South Africans in their second Super 12 game on Thursday. These two teams were supposed to meet in the warm-up match, but bad weather prevented the match from taking place.

The Netherlands have long been recognized as one of the best footballing nations in the world and the World Cup's unluckiest team. Despite participating in the finals of the 1974, 1978, and 2010 World Cups, the Dutch national men's football team has never taken home the trophy.
The current Dutch team is not considered one of the strong favourites to win the FIFA World Cup 2022. However, as the competition goes on, they might become a dangerous force. One of the most seasoned and well-respected coaches in the world is their head coach, Louis van Gaal. He has a big job on hand to make a strong team from the preliminary squad for the upcoming football World Cup in Qatar.

T20 World Cup 2022: Bangladesh player ratings vs Netherlands
Bangladesh started their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign with a 9-run victory against the Netherlands. They had never won a game in the second round of the Twenty20 World Cup prior to yesterday's match against the Dutch team. It was the Tigers' first victory in the second round in the tournament's history after 17 attempts. Let’s have a look at the Bangladesh player ratings against the Netherlands.
BAN vs NED 2022: Bangladesh player ratings
Bangladesh team was under pressure prior to their first Super 12 Round contest against the Netherlands on Monday because of their recent poor performances on the international stage. They had some nervous moments, especially when the execution of the batters was once again poor. The Tigers eventually managed to put up a challenging total of 144/8 to defend at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

The target was not so big, and the Netherlands could have chased it if the top order had a solid start. But pacer Taskin Ahmed had another idea, and he struck twice in the first two deliveries of the Netherlands innings. The Dutch side lost two wickets without having a run on the board, and within four overs they were 17/4. Middle-order batter Colin Ackermann (62) and lower-order batter Paul van Meekeren (24) tried to reach the target, but eventually the Netherlands were bowled out for 135 in exactly 20 overs.
The majority of Bangladesh's players did not perform as expected. In fact, the pace bowlers played a major role in snatching the victory from the Dutch side. Here are the player ratings of Bangladesh against the Netherlands.
Najmul Hossain Shanto (4/10)
Najmul’s inclusion in the team was a big question mark in the first place. He was sent to open the innings with Soumya Sarkar and had a 43-run partnership with him. But he once again failed to extend his innings after having a solid start. Najmul made 25 off 20 balls.
Soumya Sarkar (4/10)
Soumya was picked by the selectors because of his very good record in the Oceania region. But he failed to deliver against the Netherlands and departed after playing a 14-off-14-ball knock. Soumya bowled three overs, including the final one of the match, and got the last wicket of the Netherlands.
Litton Das (2/10)
The most stylish batter in Bangladesh, Litton Das, failed to show his true class in this contest. He only made 9 and departed at a crucial stage of the innings.
Shakib Al Hasan (3/10)
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan didn’t have a good day either with the bat or ball. He made only 7 with the bat and was the costliest of the regular Bangladesh bowlers.
Afif Hossain (6/10)
Afif Hossain played an important knock for Bangladesh when the team total was 76/5. He stayed at the crease till the 18th over and ensured Bangladesh had a decent total on board. Afif made a vital 38-run in 27 balls.
Read: T20 World Cup: South Africa -Zimbabwe fixture abandoned due to rain
Yasir Ali (1/10)
Yasir Ali’s inclusion in the team was to provide some power hitting in the death overs. But he was a complete failure against the Netherlands. Yasir only made 3 runs.
Nurul Hasan (4/10)
Nurul Hasan Sohan didn’t do much with the bat but was active behind the wicket. He made only 13 runs after coming into the crease in the middle overs.
Mosaddek Hossain (7.5/10)
Mosaddek Hossain’s 20 off 12 balls cameo made the difference for Bangladesh. Bangladesh could well have lost the match if he hadn't played the crucial blow in the death overs.
Taskin Ahmed (8/10)
What a performer Taskin Ahmed has become after returning to the Bangladesh national team setup. His desire to become one of the world’s best will soon be accomplished if he continues to perform like he did against the Netherlands. Taskin was the player of the match, with 4 wickets to his name.
Hasan Mahmud (7.5/10)
The young pacer Hasan Mahmud was brilliant against the Netherlands. Hasan picked up two wickets in his four overs spell with a stunning economy rate of 3.75.
Mustafizur Rahman (7/10)
The cutter master, Mustafizur Rahman, didn’t pick up a wicket for his side against the Netherlands, but he was very economical. Mustafizur finished his spell with a tally of 4-0-20-0 with an economy rate of 5.

Aftermath
The batters once again fell short of expectations in the game against the Netherlands, which is a serious concern ahead of the fixtures against strong opponents. That is why the batter's ratings against the Netherlands were low among the Bangladesh players. In contrast, bowlers, who practically played the major roles in Bangladesh's first victory in the T20 World Cup 2022, had better ratings.
T20 World Cup: South Africa -Zimbabwe fixture abandoned due to rain
The ICC Men's T20 World Cup battle between two African countries --South Africa and Zimbabwe --ended in no result due to heavy rain at Bellerive Oval in Hobart, Australia on Monday.
South Africa will feel denied of the full points, as they were forced to share one point each with Zimbabwe despite a commanding position.
To be fair, if the umpires restart the match and try to stretch the match for as long as possible then South Africa would not be deprived of a victory in their opener.
In a two and half hour rain delayed start match, Zimbabwe batted first after winning the toss and scored 79 for 5 in a curtailed nine- over match
Number five batter Wessly Madhevere scored the team highest 35 runs off just 18 ball hitting four fours and one six while number six Milton Shumba made 20-ball 18 runs with two boundaries.
Lungi Ngidi grabbed two wickets for 20 runs in two overs.
Chasing a revised winning target of 64 runs in 7 overs, South Africa came close to the victory scoring 51 runs for no loss in just three overs, when umpires called up the match for rain.
South African opener Quinton de Kock was in batting on 47 runs off 18 balls, featuring eight fours and one six at that time with captain Temba Bavume, who was in batting on two runs.
‘Sports for All’: Young Bangla holds “Let’s Talk” with policymakers, students in Ctg
Centre for Research and Information’s (CRI)’s youth platform, Young Bangla, held its latest instalment of “Let’s Talk” – an interdisciplinary discussion between policymakers and university students – in Chattogram city on October 23, 2022.
This session focused on ‘Sports for All’, where policymakers and young leaders discussed and shared their views on abovementioned topic with around 360 participants at Premier University Bangladesh in port city, according to a press release.
Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP and ex-President of Bangladesh Cricket Board and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Sayeda Zakia Noor Lipi, MP, from Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare; Krishna Rani Sarker, footballer of Bangladesh Women’s National Football Team; and Santwana Rani Ray, Founder of Lalmonirhar Taekwon-Do Association (LTA) and Joy Bangla Youth Awardee, answered questions from the participating students, as well as took part in a discussion in “Let’s Talk” on ‘Sports for All’. The event was moderated by Israt Jahan Noor Eva.
Vice Chancellor and Ekushe Padak recipient, prominent scholar, sociologist and sports enthusiast Dr. Anupam Sen gave the welcome speech, thanking CRI and Young Bangla for such innovative initiative on his campus. He expected that his students will understand the value of healthy upbringing to build a more creative, humane nation.
Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP emphasized on ensuring the possibilities of positive outcome in different sports as well as private and public sector involvement in sports development at the root-level. He also expected that CRI will carry the words and questions of the students to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
‘’We often lack the right questions and right issues to discuss in our standing committee. Today, all of you have asked the right questions. We should not hold an elitist mindset when it comes to sports. Sports is all about equal opportunity on the playground,” he noted.
T20 World Cup 2022: Taskin shines as Bangladesh register first Super 12 win
Bangladesh registered their first win in the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2022, beating the Netherlands by nine runs on Monday in Hobert.
Taskin Ahmed, the right-arm pacer, bagged four wickets for the Tigers to lead the way to the victory. Another right-arm pacer, Hasan Mahmud, also did well, taking two important wickets in this match. Taskin ended up taking four for 25—his best in T20Is now. His previous best was two for 12 against Papua New Guinea.

Winning the toss, the Netherlands opted to bowl first. Bangladesh posted 144 for eight. In reply, the Netherlands lost two wickets in the very first two balls of their innings.
Taskin’s pace looked too good for the Netherlands batters. The hard-working pacer provided Bangladesh with a dream start. In the first ball, Yasir Ali took a tough catch at the first slip, and in the second ball, wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan took a regulation catch to dismiss the second wicket.
The Netherlands lost two more wickets, trapped by run out in the fourth over when Shakib Al Hasan came to bowl and conceded a six off his first ball. Max ODowd hit him for a six off the first ball, but on the next ball, Max was trapped in run-out. In the same over, Bangladesh sent back Netherlands captain Tom Cooper as well, who suffered a diamond duck—didn't face any balls before getting run out.
Najmul Hossain Shanto saved a boundary in great fashion and threw the ball to the wicketkeeper Nurul, who broke the stumps in a flash. And thus, Tom lost his wicket for a duck.
Colin Ackermann came up with a heroic knock for the Netherlands, but it was not enough for them as he hardly got any support from his teammates who came a cropper today. Scott Edwards and Ackermann had a 44-run stand for the fifth wicket, but that was not enough for them.
In the last over, the Netherlands needed 24 runs. Soumya Sarkar defended it, conceding 14 runs with a six and a wicket off the last ball of the match. In the 19th over, Mustafizur Rahman conceded only eight runs and made the task tough for the Netherlands.
Read:T20 World Cup: Bangladesh set 145 victory target for Netherlands
The Netherlands innings eventually ended up at 135 in 20 overs, and Bangladesh sealed the match by 9 runs. They came close, but they needed to display more potent batting to win the match against a quality bowling attack.
Earlier, Bangladesh got a good start as the openers, Shanto and Soumya, made a good start, posting 43 in the opening stand. But the middle order failed to deliver well. Afif Hossain was the best batter for Bangladesh, scoring 38 runs. Shanto posted the second highest score of 25 runs.
At the lower order, Mosaddek Hossain scored 20 off 12 balls and helped Bangladesh post a fighting total of 144 for eight. For the Netherlands, Paul van Meekeren and Bas de Leede took two wickets each.
After registering their first Super 12 Round win against the Netherlands, the Bangladesh team will be full of confidence to play their second T20 World Cup 2022 match against South Africa on October 27 in Sydney.

Qatar World Cup 2022: Venues
One of the main attractions of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar is the venues. The organizer has built some eye-catching stadiums for the mega tournament where all the modern facilities are installed. A total of eight stadiums have been built in five major cities in Qatar and the interesting thing is that all the venues are air-conditioned where cooling systems have been installed to reduce temperatures within the stadium up to 36 degrees Fahrenheit.
Qatar is a tiny country, so the distance between one city and another is very short. Due to the short distance traveled, fatigue will be less among the players. The five cities where the matches of the tournament will take place are Lusail, Al Khor, Doha, Al Rayyan, and Al Wakrah. Here are the eight stadiums for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Aftermath
The FIFA World Cup 2022 is drawing a lot of attention from football enthusiasts worldwide, especially with regard to how the host country will organize the competition. The schedule indicates that the eight groups of 32 participating nations won't have to travel much further to play their matches because of the close proximity of the venues. Overall, Qatar's preparations for the World Cup promise to be a memorable event.
T20 World Cup: Bangladesh strike early, Netherlands lose 4 quick wickets
In reply to Bangladesh’s 144, Netherlands lost three early wickets, with two in the first over bowled by Taskin Ahmed, and two fell to run-outs.
The Netherlands won the toss and opted to bowl first. Bangladesh posted 144 for eight.
Taskin’s pace looked good for the Netherlands batters.
In the fourth over, Shakib Al Hasan came to bowl. Max ODowd hit him for a six off the first ball he bowled. But in the next ball, Max ODowd was trapped in run-out. In the same over, Bangladesh sent back Netherlands captain Tom Cooper as well.

Tom suffered a diamond duck — he didn't get a single ball to play before getting run-out.
Najmul Hossain Shanto saved a boundary in a great fashion and threw the ball to the wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan who broke the stump in a flash. And thus, Tom suffered the duck.
At the end of four overs, Netherlands were batting at 17 for four.
T20 World Cup: Bangladesh set 145 victory target for Netherlands
Despite having a good start, Bangladesh only managed to give the Netherlands a 145-run target in their first match of the T20 World Cup 2022 against the Netherlands in Hobert.
Afif Hossain posted the highest score, 38 runs off 27 balls, with two fours and two sixes. But he was dismissed when he needed to press the accelerator. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 25, Soumya Sarkar posted 14, and Mosaddek Hossain scored 20 for the Tigers.
Bangladesh lost five wickets while going from 43 to 76. That was the best part of the match so far for the Netherlands, who were quite impressive in their bowling. They took wickets when they needed them most, and thus, Bangladesh failed to have a challenging total.
Soumya and Shanto managed a good start, posting 43 runs in their opening partnership. But they departed in a span of seven balls. Right after the openers departed, Bangladesh lost two more quick wickets as Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan fell for nine and seven respectively.

In the first five overs, Bangladesh posted 43 for none. But on the first ball of the sixth over bowled by Paul van Meekeren, Bangladesh lost Soumya for 14 off 13 balls. On the first ball of the seventh over, Bangladesh lost Najmul Hossain Shanto as well, who was playing well.
Shanto made 25 off 20 balls with four fours. Shanto looked to sweep towards the short leg boundary against the spin, but he could not make it properly. Van Beek took an easy catch at midwicket.
Liton looked shaky from the start of his innings. He played a few loose shots before falling prey to another loose shot. It was a short ball from Van Been. Liton tried to clear through the off region but ended up with a loose shot.
Shakib fell prey to Shariz Ahmed. The left-handed batter tried to play a big shot, but De Leede took an outstanding catch at deep midwicket. Mosaddek Hossain smashed 20 off just 12 balls, which helped Bangladesh to get a total. That might be good one of the Tigers can bowl well.
For the Netehrands, who won the toss and opted to bowl first, Paul van Meekeren and Bas de Leede took two wickets each.
Bangladesh have never played a T20 match in Australia before this one. But will they be able to defend a 145-run target they set for the Netherlands? The Dutch side will surely pose a strong challenge to continue their good run in the T20 World Cup 2022 that started well in the first round.
