Barcelona sells part of its production hub for $102M
Barcelona has sold part of its production hub for 100 million euros ($102 million) to boost its finances in a bid to use its newly signed players right away.
Club president Joan Laporta announced Monday the club sold a 25% stake of Barça Studios to Socios.com, a blockchain provider in the sports and entertainment business.
The club said the sale will “accelerate” the club’s strategies related to audiovisual, blockchain and online products.
The money should also allow Barcelona to meet Spanish league financial requirements and sign the players it has acquired recently, including Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Koundé, who was officially introduced on Monday.
The club spent more than 160 million euros ($163 million) on the three players, becoming Europe’s leading spender in the offseason despite being mired in financial difficulties until recently.
Laporta has been criticized for burdening the club’s future with its current tactics to find new cash. Barcelona had already sold 25% of its Spanish league TV rights for the next 25 years for 667 million euros ($682 million).

“The risk is under control,” Laporta said. “We need to save the club and have the possibility of bringing in new players.”
The mismanagement blamed on previous president Josep Bartomeu, combined with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, left the club with a debt of more than 1.3 billion euros ($1.3 billion).
The team struggled on the field as well, failing to win a major title last season after not being able to hold on to Lionel Messi.
France defender Koundé, who had also been sought after by Chelsea, praised Barcelona’s new approach to keep thriving.
“I chose Barça because it’s clear to me that the club has a very ambitious project,” the former Sevilla player said.
Barcelona will make its Spanish league debut on Aug. 13 against Rayo Vallecano.
Asia reworks qualifying format for 48-team World Cup in 2026
The Asian Football Confederation has confirmed a new qualifying format to factor in its expanded number of direct entries for a 48-team World Cup in 2026.
The governing body for soccer in Asia issued a statement Monday saying a four-round qualifying system has been designed in preparation for the eight direct spots and single intercontinental playoff slot allocated to the AFC following the expansion of the World Cup.
Under the new system, the teams ranked 26th to 47th in Asia will participate in the first round of qualifying, with 11 teams advancing to join the top 25 in a second-round home-and-away series comprising nine groups.
The top two teams in each of those groups will progress to the third round, which will be divided into three groups of six competing in round-robin format.
The first and second teams in each of those groups will get direct entries for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The third- and fourth-place teams will go into a playoff round that will be divided into two groups of three. The winners of those groups will secure spots at the World Cup; the runners-up will go into a playoff for Asia’s spot in an intercontinental playoff for a last-ditch chance at qualifying.
Asia had four direct entries for the 2022 World Cup which kicks off Nov. 21, with the first- and second-place teams — Iran, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Japan — in two six-team groups from the third round of qualifying getting automatic spots for Qatar.
The two third-place teams met for the right to play off against the fifth-place South American team for another World Cup slot. Australia beat United Arab Emirates in the Asian playoff, and then beat Peru in an intercontinental playoff to secure the 31st of 32 spots at the World Cup in Qatar.

The AFC said the qualifying format for the 2026 World Cup, and for the 2027 Asian Cup, was based on the entry of all 47 member associations “and is subject to change depending on the final number of entries.”
The Women’s Asian Cup will be staged in 2026, with the AFC confirming that Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Uzbekistan and Australia have expressed interest in hosting the tournament.
The AFC also plans to move the timing of its flagship continental men’s club tournament, the Asian Champions League, to start with a preliminary stage in August of next year and conclude with a final in May 2024.
The executive board also approved the recommendation to eliminate the away goals rule as the tiebreaker for teams finishing equal on competition points. Instead, extra time and, if necessary, penalty shootouts will be used to determine the winner of games in the home-and-away season.
Mosaddek to lead Bangladesh in 3rd T20I
Mosaddek Hossain Saikat will lead Bangladesh in the third and final T20I against Zimbabwe Tuesday as injury has ruled Nurul Hasan Sohan out of the squad for the match, according to the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Mahmudullah Riyad will be in the team for the third T20 as a replacement for Sohan, who suffered a painful blow to his finger during the second T20I Sunday.

The Tigers won the match by seven wickets to level the series. So, the third match has become the series decider.
After the T20I series, Bangladesh will play a three-match ODI series against the hosts, starting on August 5 at the Harare Sports Club. All the matches will be played at the same venue.
BAN vs ZIM ODI Series 2022: What to expect from Bangladesh and squad preview
Following the Twenty20 international series, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will play a one-day international series. The BAN vs ZIM ODI Series 2022 is not a part of the ICC’s Cricket World Cup Super League, but it has importance for Bangladesh in order to organize the one-day squad for the mega event next year. Besides, captain Tamim Iqbal has a chance to set a new record if his team clinches the series. The expectations of the Bangladesh ODI team from this bilateral contest and their squad preview are discussed in this article.
Expectations from Bangladesh team in the 2022 ODI series against Zimbabwe
Bangladesh are only one win away from securing a spot in the ICC’s 50-over World Cup 2023. They won’t be able to achieve it in the upcoming bilateral contest as it is not a part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. However, there are a few other things the team Tigers can expect to accomplish in the BAN vs ZIM ODI Series 2022.
ICC ODI Rankings
Bangladesh are currently sitting in seventh place in the ICC’s ODI rankings with 98 points. They are only 3 rating points behind Australia and South Africa, respectively. Bangladesh won’t be able to overcome either of the teams even if they whitewash Zimbabwe in the series. However, they can certainly close the gap in rating points if they clinch the series 3-0.
Read BAN vs ZIM T20I Series 2022: 3 challenges for Nurul Hasan as captain
Bangladesh’s rating points will be 99 if they win all the fixtures of the ODI series. But they will lose 3 rating points if they fail to win any of the fixtures. Moreover, Bangladesh can move down to the eight spot if Zimbabwe clinches the series 3-0. The visiting team cannot treat any match lightly in order to maintain a strong position in the ODI rankings of the International Cricket Council.
Captain Tamim Iqbal is getting close to setting a record
Bangladesh’s ODI captain, Tamim Iqbal, equaled Mashrafe Mortaza’s record after winning the West Indies series last month. Both Tamim and Mashrafe have won five straight bilateral ODI series as captains. Tamim Iqbal will now get a chance to better the record if Bangladesh win this series against Zimbabwe. This is a great opportunity for him to hold the record by himself.

Notable approaching milestones for Bangladesh cricketers
Bangladesh cricketers can attain a few significant personal milestones during the 3-match BAN vs ZIM ODI Series 2022. These are the milestones that can be achieved during the forthcoming bilateral series.
5000 International Runs
Classical top order batter Litton Das is only 64 runs away from completing his 5,000 international runs for Bangladesh. He has 4,934 runs in 168 innings for Bangladesh.

8000 ODI Runs
In the Zimbabwe series, veteran opener Tamim Iqbal could become the first Bangladeshi batter to score 8,000 ODI runs. He has made 7,943 runs in 226 innings and only needs 57 runs to reach the milestone.
50 ODI fifties
Mr. Dependable Mushfiqur Rahim has 49 ODI fifties in 218 innings for Bangladesh. He is only one fifty shy of completing his 50 ODI fifties.
250 dismissals
Mushfiqur Rahim has 248 dismissals in the ODI format and needs only 2 more dismissals to complete 250.

Right-arm medium pacer Taskin Ahmed is one match away from completing his 50 ODI appearances for Bangladesh.
Preview of Bangladesh's ODI squad
The BCB selectors named a 16-member ODI squad for the Zimbabwe series, excluding all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who has been given rest for the tour. Wicket-keeper Nurul Hasan was part of the squad but wouldn’t be available in the series after sustaining an injury to his left index finger while playing the second T20I against Zimbabwe.
Veteran middle-order batter Mushfiqur Rahim will make an international comeback after missing out on playing the West Indies series due to the Hajj pilgrimage. The young right-arm medium pacer Hasan Mahmud was included in the squad, who last featured against New Zealand in March 2021. Over the past 12 months, the talented pacer has experienced a variety of injuries.

Bangladesh squad for the 2022 ODI series against Zimbabwe
Tamim Iqbal (captain), Litton Das, Anamul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam, Nasum Ahmed.
Top-order (batting)
Bangladesh have four alternatives for their top-order batting lineup, including skipper Tamim Iqbal. Among them, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Anamul Haque are fighting for a permanent place in the team. This 3-match series may well be Anamul’s last opportunity to showcase his talent once more on the international stage. Therefore, Anamul should seize the chance to obtain the selectors' affection.
Middle-order (batting)
Mushfiqur Rahim’s return to the squad will strengthen the Bangladesh middle-order. Besides, Riyad, Afif, and Mosaddek’s main responsibility will be to accelerate the run rates in the death overs. Young Afif has already proved his capability as a batter, but Mosaddek’s place in the Bangladesh national team setup has been a bit shaky. Mosaddek needs to make some vital contributions in the series to cement his place in the national side.
Read Bangladesh level series with comfortable win
Pace (bowling)
The selectors included four genuine pacers for the series, and all of them are capable match winners. Skipper Tamim Iqbal’s ideal picks would be Mustafizur, Taskin, and Shoriful. If Hasan Mahmud is given a chance and demonstrates his true potential, Tamim will face a dilemma when picking the top two pacers for the starting XI.
Spin (bowling)
For Zimbabwe, constructing a playing XI with two genuine spinners could be an ideal decision. That is why the selectors included three spinners – Taijul Islam, Nasum Ahmed, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The off-spinner Miraz is a regular member of the ODI setup. Therefore, anyone between Taijul and Nasum will be picked for the playing XI. Both had commendable performances in the recent West Indies series and had a valid reason to be picked for the team.
Aftermath
Bangladesh’s recent ODI results have been pretty impressive, winning fifteen of twenty-one matches since last year. They have also won six out of seven ODI series since January 2021. In contrast, Zimbabwe have only won two matches out of twelve and haven’t won a series since January last year. As a result, Bangladesh will be a heavy favourite to win the upcoming BAN vs ZIM ODI Series 2022.

Nurul Hasan ruled out of Zimbabwe tour
Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan has been ruled out of the Zimbabwe tour after suffering a blow on his finger, BCB confirmed.
Nurul was leading the Bangladesh team in the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Bangladesh lost the first match of the series but won the second match under his leadership.
Nurul was appointed as Bangladesh’s T20I captain right before the ongoing series. He replaced Mahmudullah Riyad.

It’s not clear if BCB would call a replacement for Nurul.
The wicketkeeper-batter hurt his left index finger while keeping against fast bowler Hasan Mahmud during the 2nd T20I at the Harare Sports Club which Bangladesh won by 7 wickets.
“We did an X-ray which revealed a fracture to the index finger,” Bangladesh physio Muzadded Alpha Sany said. “Such injuries take about three weeks to recover. He is therefore out of Tuesday’s last T20 match and the upcoming ODI series.”
After the T20I series, Bangladesh will play a three-match ODI series against the hosts starting on August 5 at the Harare Sports Club. All the matches will be played at the same venue.
Messi, Neymar score in 4-0 win as PSG wins Champions Trophy
Lionel Messi opened the scoring and Neymar scored twice as French champion Paris Saint-Germain beat French Cup winner Nantes 4-0 to win the Champions Trophy on Sunday.
Messi, the record seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, netted midway through the first half. Taking a deflected pass from Neymar, he went past goalkeeper Alban Lafont before scoring with a fine finish.

Neymar expertly guided a free kick into the top left corner in first-half injury time to put coach Christophe Galtier's side 2-0 up at Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv, which hosted the game for the second straight year.
Veteran defender Sergio Ramos made it 3-0 in the 57th minute from close range and Neymar converted a penalty in the 82nd after being fouled by Jean-Charles Castelletto, who was sent off.
Galtier, who guided Lille to the league title against the odds in 2021, now has his first trophy at PSG. He replaced Maurico Pochettino after he was fired.
Antoine Kombouare, who once coached PSG, helped Nantes win its first trophy in 21 years when it won the cup.
England beats Germany in extra time to win Euro 2022
Just when it seemed England might again be weighed down by expectations and history, Chloe Kelly made the breakthrough.
Kelly's goal in the second half of extra time — the first time she had ever scored in a competitive international game — propelled England to its first major women's soccer title on Sunday, beating Germany 2-1.
By the time Kelly scored, England looked to be tiring, even with the boost of the home crowd, and struggling to deal with Germany's fresh substitute players. The game had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes at Wembley Stadium with Lina Magull for Germany canceling out Ella Toone's goal for England.
Then Kelly prodded in a loose ball at the second attempt in the 110th minute after Germany failed to clear a corner. Cue the celebrations, chants on Trafalgar Square, and congratulations from the queen.
“I always believed I’d be here, but to be here and score the winner, wow. These girls are amazing,” said Kelly, who returned from a serious knee injury in April. “This is amazing, I just want to celebrate now.”
Kelly took her shirt off to celebrate her goal, earning a yellow card but also a shout-out from Brandi Chastain, who celebrated in similar style when her penalty kick won the World Cup for the U.S. in 1999. “Enjoy the free rounds of pints and dinners for the rest of your life from all of England. Cheers!” Chastain wrote on Twitter.
After the final whistle, the England players danced and the crowd sang their anthem “Sweet Caroline.” The good-natured atmosphere inside the stadium Sunday drew contrasts with the violent scenes when the England men’s team lost its European Championship final to Italy at the same stadium a year ago.
The tournament-record crowd of more than 87,000 underlined the growth of women’s soccer in Europe since the last time England and Germany played for a continental title 13 years ago.
On that occasion, Germany surged to a 6-2 win over an England team which still relied on part-time players. Two years later, England launched its Women’s Super League, which has professionalized the game and grown into one of the main competitions worldwide.
That has meant increasing competition for Germany, which was a pioneering nation in European women’s soccer and increasingly faces well-funded rivals like England, Spain and France.
England's title comes 56 years after the nation's only major men's title which was also an extra-time win at Wembley over Germany at the 1966 World Cup. Queen Elizabeth II's congratulatory message called the England team an “inspiration for girls and women today, and for future generations."
The players, too, are conscious of how their success has important consequences.

“We talked and talked and finally we did it," England captain Leah Williamson said. "It’s the proudest moment of my life so I’m going to lap it up and take every single second in. The legacy of this tournament and this team is a change in society. We’ve brought everyone together.”
On Sunday, Germany was without captain Alexandra Popp — the team’s leading scorer with six goals — after she reported a muscle problem in the warmup. She was replaced in the lineup by Schüller while Svenja Huth took over as captain.
The game was goalless after a physical first half in which Ellen White shot narrowly over the bar for England, while Marina Hegering nearly forced the ball in for Germany at a corner before Williamson and Earps intervened.
Either team could have had a penalty in the opening half, first when the ball seemed to touch Williamson’s arm as she cleared, and later when Hegering dived to clear the ball and collided with Lucy Bronze.
Ella Toone latched onto a long pass from Keira Walsh to get in behind the German defense in the 62nd minute and cleverly sent a lobbed shot over goalkeeper Merle Frohms and into the net for the opening goal.
Toone's goal, six minutes after she entered the game from the bench, sparked celebrations as England manager Sarina Wiegman — the winning coach with the Netherlands in 2017 — raised both arms in joy.
Facing its first defeat in nine European finals, Germany came close when Lea Schüller hit the post and then leveled the score in the 79th when Lina Magull knocked a low cross past England goalkeeper Mary Earps, taking the game to extra time.
When the game went to extra time there were echoes of another European Championship final at the same venue the year before, when the England men’s team had a 1-0 lead but lost on penalties to Italy, but Kelly's goal changed all that. England took control of the game in the final minutes, denying Germany chances for a second equalizer.
After the final whistle, Popp joined her teammates on the field and, with midfielder Lena Oberdorf, was comforted by England's Georgia Stanway.
England’s jubilant players entered Wiegman’s post-match news conference singing “It’s Coming Home” as they celebrated their dramatic win.
Wiegman was in the middle of the news conference when her squad burst into the room, singing and dancing around the top table.
Goalkeeper Earps even climbed on top of the table to continue dancing as the celebrations looked set to continue late into the evening.
Wiegman remains unbeaten in 12 games as coach at the European Championships after winning the tournament first with the Netherlands and now with England. One of her first moves after England won was to share a hug with 35-year-old midfielder Jill Scott, the only remaining player on either team from England's 2009 loss to Germany.
The game was refereed by Ukrainian Kateryna Monzul, who fled her home country after Russia invaded. One of Europe’s leading referees, Monzul left her home in Kharkiv -- a major city which has been heavily bombarded by Russian forces -- and spent five days living in a basement at her parents’ house before leaving the country and eventually living and working in Italy.

Bangladesh level series with comfortable win
With a comfortable seven-wicket win, Bangladesh levelled the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe on Sunday at the Harare Sports Club. The third and final match of the series will take place on August 2 at the same venue.
Bangladesh lost the first match by 17 runs. They needed to bounce back in the second match in order to stay in the race of winning the series.

While chasing a moderate total of 135, Bangladesh reached the target in 17.3 overs. Afif Hossain and Najmul Hossain Shanot remained unbeaten for 30 and 19 respectively.
Earlier, Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bat first. But they could not start as they did in the first match. Off the very first ball of the match, Mosaddek trapped Regis Chakabva for a duck. Captain Nurul Hasan Sohan took an easy catch behind the wicket.
After Chakabva, Mosaddek also removed Craig Ervine, Wesley Madhevere, Sean Williams and Milton Shumba. All of them were out for a single-digit run.

Mosaddek ended up taking five wickets for 20 runs— his best bowling figures in the format. And along the way, he became only the fourth Bangladeshi bowler to take five or more wickets in T20Is.
But Sikandar Raza stood like a wall in front of Bangladeshi bowlers. Before falling to Mustafizur Rahman, Raza scored 62 runs off 53 balls. And Ryan Burl was the second-highest runs taker for the hosts scoring 32 off 31 balls.
Eventually, Zimbabwe tumbled for 135 for eight in 20 overs. They demonstrated a great recovery despite Mosaddek’s show.
This win will be marked as the first win of Bangladesh under the leadership of Nurul Hasan Sohan who recently replaced Mahmudullah Riyad as the captain of Bangladesh in T20Is.
After the three-match T20 series, Bangladesh will take on the hosts in a three-match ODI series against the hosts starting on August 5. All the matches will be played at the Harare Sports Club.
