Meta is set to take on Twitter with a rival app called Threads
Meta is poised to unveil a new app that appears to mimic Twitter in a direct challenge to the social media platform owned by Elon Musk.
A listing for the app, called Threads, appeared on Apple's App Store, indicating it would debut as early as Thursday. It is billed as a “text-based conversation app" that is linked to Instagram, according to the listing, which teased a Twitter-like microblogging experience.
“Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what'll be trending tomorrow,” it said.
Instagram users will be able to keep their user names and follow the same accounts on the new app, according to screenshots displayed on the App Store listing.
Meta declined to comment on the app, and Twitter sends a crude automated reply to most media queries.
Threads could be the latest headache for Musk, who acquired Twitter last year for $44 billion and has been making changes to the platform that have unnerved advertisers and turned off users.
In the latest such tweak, Twitter said Monday that it will require users to be verified before they can use the online dashboard TweetDeck. The new policy takes effect in 30 days and appears to be aimed at raising extra revenue because users need to pay have their accounts verified under Musk's changes.
TweetDeck is popular with companies and news organizations, allowing users to manage multiple Twitter accounts.
Twitter is already facing backlash after Musk announced that Twitter has limited the number of tweets users can view each day — restrictions that the billionaire Tesla CEO described as an attempt to stop unauthorized scraping of potentially valuable data.
Musk's rivalry with Meta Platforms also could end up spilling over into real life. In an online exchange between Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the two tech billionaires seemingly agreed to a cage match face-off, though it's unclear if they will actually make it to the ring.
Tecno Camon 20 Pro Review: Can it fulfill the users’ expectations?
Tecno Smartphones has long been an outlier in the smartphone industry for its interesting approach to the market. While most brands focus on a mix of cost-cutting and functionality in their budget-friendly devices, Tecno Mobile aims to integrate an all-around premium experience under affordable price-ranges. In this legacy, Tecno has launched the Camon 20 Pro in Bangladesh recently. The device being a direct successor to the Camon 19 Pro brings a host of new features. Let’s find out the main features, pros, cons and price of Tecno Camon 20 Pro.
Key Specifications of Tecno Camon 20 Pro
Design and Build Quality
There has been a complete design overhaul of the Camon 20 Pro from its predecessor. While the 19 Pro had a much more toned-down traditional look, the 20 Pro feels like something straight out of Sci-Fi.
The camera module on the back is housed on a pentagonal base which is flush with the back panel. But that’s not all as the entire back panel now has a refractive geometric pattern which gives the device a contemporary abstract art-like look. It’s pretty obvious that Tecno meant this device to be used with the included clear case only.
Moving over to build quality, the device is an all-plastic build with a glass front. The display glass isn’t rated but it is supposed to be some older Gorilla Glass tech. The device has a 163.4 x 76.7 x 8.2 mm dimension which brings the weight to about 182 gm. It feels great in hand due to its uniform weight distribution and boxy design.

The volume rocker along with the power button is situated on the right of the device. The left side houses the micro SDXC and sim slot with the secondary mic on top. The primary speaker, Type C port, and the precious headphone jack are placed at the bottom. This year, the naming of the colorways has also been updated with Predawn Black and Serenity Blue.
Overall, the design took a long leap with the 20 Pro while the build quality remains satisfactory just like the 19 Pro.
The Display
For a lower mid-range device, the display spec of the Camon 20 Pro is quite surprising. Tecno managed to integrate the uniform bezel design for the Camon 20 Pro which until very recently was only seen on iPhones and high-end Androids.
The display itself is a 6.67 inches FHD+ AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. It’s a big jump considering the 19 Pro came with an IPS LCD panel. The uniform bezel design means the device now has an 85.7% screen-to-body ratio which is one of the highest in the Camon lineup.

The 1080P panel has a 395 ppi density making it a sharp and crisp display for all kinds of viewing situations. The stacked spec of the display doesn’t really translate much beyond paper. However, the viewing angles and everything are satisfactory. It's just that the colors on the display look a bit washed out and pale for an AMOLED panel. Users can tweak the display setting to opt for a warmer contrast. But out of the box, the experience might be lacking a bit.
The Camera
The Camon 20 Pro features a triple camera module set on two large circular housings. The top one houses the main 64 MP camera while the bottom one houses the 2 MP depth and a QVGA sensor. There is also the trademark ring LED flashlight right beside the sensors.
In essence, the main camera does all of the work as the depth and QVGA are good as nothing. In daylight, the pictures come out great with excellent details and good dynamic range occasionally. Users might notice exposure issues as the camera tries to process too much light in extremely bright outdoor shots. The issue is also persistent indoors as it overcompensates for low lights in this case.
The videography is rated at 1080P at 30fps but without any kind of stabilization support, it really isn’t worth shooting unless you have an external gimbal.

The front camera is a 32 MP shooter which does a decent job at capturing selfies. Overall, the camera experience on the Camon 20 Pro is average as there are better camera phones at this budget point.

Elon Musk imposes daily limits on reading posts on Twitter
Twitter owner Elon Musk has limited the amount of tweets that most users can view each day — restrictions he described as an attempt to prevent unauthorized scraping of potentially valuable data from the social media platform.
The site is now requiring people to log on to view tweets and profiles — a change in its longtime practice to allow everyone to peruse the chatter on what Musk has frequently touted as the world’s digital town square since buying it for $44 billion last year.
The restrictions could result in users being locked out of Twitter for the day after scrolling through several hundred tweets. Thousands of users complained Saturday of not being able to access the site.
Twitter users run into service issues after Elon Musk imposes daily limits on reading tweets
In a Friday tweet, Musk described the new restrictions as a temporary measure that was taken because “we were getting data pillaged so much that it was degrading service for normal users!”
Musk has pushed back on what he calls misuse of Twitter data to train popular artificial intelligence systems like ChatGPT. They scour reams of information online to generate human-like text, photos, video and other content.
Musk elaborated on the limits Saturday, saying unverified accounts will temporarily be restricted to reading 600 posts per day, while verified accounts will be able to scroll through up to 6,000.
After facing backlash, he tweeted that the thresholds would be raised to 800 posts for unverified accounts and 8,000 for verified accounts before later settling on 1,000 and 10,000 tweets, respectively.
Tech billionaires' cage match? Musk throws down the gauntlet and Zuckerberg accepts challenge
The crackdown began to have ripple effects, causing more than 7,500 people at one point Saturday to report problems using the social media service, based on complaints registered on Downdetector, a website that tracks online outages.
Although that's a relatively small number of Twitter's more than 200 million worldwide users, the trouble was widespread enough to cause the #TwitterDown hashtag to trend in some parts of the world.
The higher threshold allowed on verified accounts is part of an $8-per-month subscription service that Musk rolled out earlier this year in an effort to boost Twitter revenue. It has fallen sharply since the billionaire Tesla CEO took over the company and laid off roughly three-fourths of the workforce to cut costs and stave off bankruptcy.
Advertisers have since curbed their spending on Twitter, partly because of changes that have allowed more sometimes-hateful and prickly content that offends a wider part of the service's audience.
EU official says Twitter abandons bloc's voluntary pact against disinformation
Musk recently hired longtime NBC Universal executive Linda Yaccarino as Twitter's CEO to try to win back advertisers.
An Associated Press inquiry about Saturday's access problems triggered a crude automated reply that Twitter sends to most media queries without addressing the question.

The phone has a V-notch display. The placement of buttons and ports is average. The volume rocker and power button are located on the side of the device, while the USB-C charging port and audio jack are positioned at the bottom.

Display
The Benco S1 phone features a 6.8-inch display with an HD+ resolution of 1640 x 720 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 269 PPI. Cage fight: Musk, Zuckerberg both up for face-off
Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, two of the world's leading tech billionaires, have agreed to face off in a cage match.
Musk said on his Twitter account that he was "up for a cage fight" with Zuckerberg, reports BBC.

Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta, subsequently tweeted a copy of Musk's message with the comment "send me location."
"The story speaks for itself," a Meta spokesperson told the BBC.
Musk responded to Zuckerberg's remark with the words "Vegas Octagon."

The Octagon is the fenced-in enclosure and competition mat used for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fights. The UFC is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada, said the report.
Musk, who turns 52 later this month, also tweeted: "I have this great move called 'The Walrus,' where I just lie on top of my opponent and do nothing."
"I almost never work out, except for picking up my kids & throwing them in the air," he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Zuckerberg, 39, has begun practicing mixed martial arts (MMA) and has lately won jiu-jitsu contests, added the report.

The back-and-forth has gone viral, with social media users arguing who would win the battle and others posting parodies such as made up ads advertising the fight.
Meta presented coworkers layouts for a text-based social network aimed to compete with Twitter earlier this month, sources told the BBC.
It may allow users to follow profiles they currently follow on Meta's image-sharing app Instagram.
It may help the firm to gain followers via decentralized networks such as Mastodon, the report also said.
A Meta representative acknowledged to the BBC that the platform was in the works.
The text-based network, called P92, may prove to be a more formidable competitor to Elon Musk's Twitter than BlueSky or Mastodon.
vivo Y36 Review: Does Price Meet Performance?
vivo recently launched Y36, an update to their Y series, globally on 27th May 2023. The smartphones under vivo Y series offer premium looks. Like its predecessors, the vivo Y36 blends in modern design elements in a compact mid-range package. Let’s look at the detailed review.
Key Specifications of vivo Y36
Design and Build Quality
Much of the design elements of the Y36 have been carried forward from the outgoing Y35. The Y36 takes a more toned-down design approach compared to the flashy refractive back of the Y35. This design choice is purely subjective as some might prefer the minimal look over the flaunting one. The large rectangular camera housing on the back is almost becoming synonymous with the Y series design and that is probably a good thing. It’s adding a distinct design element that highlights the Y36 from the rest.
At 202 grams, the device is on the heavier side for an all-plastic device. Much of that can be attributed to the footprint of the device which comes in at 6.46 x 3.00 x 0.32 in. The front of the device houses the 6.64-inch display which with an 85.4% screen-to-body ratio, looks like an entry-level smartphone from yesteryear.

Other than the front with its large chin, there aren’t any design loops with the Y36. Ports and buttons are all placed as usual with the 3.5 mm headphone jack staying for another iteration. There is also a dedicated micro SDXC slot on the device which will be necessary if one goes with the entry-level 4/64 GB variant.
Overall, the device feels great in looks. The weight distribution felt even with a good balance all around. For anyone looking for a minimal yet stylish device at a mid-range budget, the Y36 can be a perfect pick.
The Display
While the display bezels might not be all that pleasing to look at, the story is completely different from the display itself. The 6.64-inch display is an IPS LCD panel with 1080P by 2388P FHD+ resolution, 90 Hz refresh rate, and a 550 nits HBM. The 395 PPI is more than enough for an LCD panel making it a pretty solid performer.

Being an LCD panel, the 550 HBM isn’t all that great. Even with max brightness, legibility under direct sunlight will still be a strenuous ordeal. But most people won’t be using the device in the scorching sunlight as is.
The performance of the panel itself is satisfactory. It will not compete with the likes of AMOLED with washed-out blacks. But the display has its own perks. Unlike most LCD panels, the display on the Y36 doesn’t suffer from weird color shifts here and there. The viewing angles are good with accurate color reproduction.
The 90 Hz refresh rate is another plus point of the device as it delivers a smooth interactive experience. Overall, the display on the Y36 isn’t the best of the lot out there. But it certainly produces passable results.

The Camera
The camera on the Y36 is a bit confusing. The device has a triple camera setup with 50 MP main sensors, 2 MP depth, and a 2 MP macro shooter. However, the macro shooter is not available in every region. For the South Asian market, the macro sensor has not been included in the design.
Moving on to the performance of the camera, it's exactly what one would expect from a mid-range device. vivo has come a long way from their over-processed photo era and it honestly makes a big difference. Photos under direct sunlight look natural and crisp with great details all around. The depth sensor aids well in portrait shots though the edge detection is a hit or miss at times.
However, the camera performance drops a bit in indoor or artificial lighting conditions. It's not drastically different but the images overall become a bit soft.

The story is the same with the 16 MP front camera as well, great daylight pictures and moderate low light images.
The Y36 videography is rated at 1080P at 30 fps. With the main camera resolution and processing power, vivo could have provided 4K technology on the device. But the guess is that lack of OIS or EIS may have deterred the move.
