A mobile court on Wednesday fined 17 people for not wearing masks drive breaching recommended health guidelines in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla.
Rakib Hasan, upazila nirbahi officer and Shahida Akter, assistant commissioner (land) of the upazila, led the mobile court in new market area in the morning.
“The 17 people were fined a total of Tk 7,700 as they didn’t were masks as per the recommended health guidelines,” said UNO Rakib Hasan.
He also warned that if traders fail to follow the health instruction, their shops will immediately be put under lockdown for a month.
The upazila administration is closely monitoring the situation, he added.
Despite having no significant improvement in coronavirus situation, the government reopened regular activities on a limited scale at the beginning of current month and asked the countrymen to maintain proper healthcare.
Bangladesh on Wednesday saw the highest-ever jump in coronavirus cases in a single day as the health authorities confirmed the detection of 4,008 new patients in the span of 24 hours, increasing the total number of cases to 98,489.
During the same period, 43 more patients died from the virus infection, taking the death toll to 1,305.
