The new deaths were recorded from Tuesday night till Wednesday night while the fresh infections in 24 hours till Wednesday morning. The number of new dengue cases was 753 on Tuesday.
In Dhaka, an apprentice lawyer succumbed to dengue at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Abir Hossain, 25, son of Abdullah Al Mamun of Konda village in Savar upazila.
Victim’s paternal uncle Amir Hossain said Abir was infected with dengue two weeks ago.
He was first taken to Ibn Sina Hospital at Kalyanpur in the capital and then shifted to a private hospital in Dhanmondi.
The youth was finally taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital and kept on life support for two days.
However, doctors removed his life support around 9:30pm on Wednesday, Amir said, adding that Abir was trying to go to the UK to receive higher degree.
A toddler lost her battle to dengue at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Khadiza Akhter, 2, daughter of Ismail of city’s Mugda area.
Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police camp, said Khadiza was diagnosed with dengue at Mugda General Hospital on September 7.
She was shifted to the DMCH on Wednesday afternoon following deterioration of her condition. But doctors pronounced her dead there.
In Jashore, two women succumbed to the mosquito-borne disease on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Jahida Begum, 44, wife of Quader of Hanua village, and Jahanara Begum, 35, of Manshimnagar village in Manirampur upazila. Both were hospitalised with dengue on September 9.
Dr Arif Ahmed, medical officer of Jessore General Hospital, said they advised Jahida’s relatives to shift her to Dhaka as her condition deteriorated.
But she could not be moved because of her critical condition and she died around 6:25am, he said.
Dr Abdur Rahim, supervisor of the hospital, said Jahanara lost battle to dengue around 4am.
With this, six people have so far died of dengue in the district since January, he said.
In Khulna, a woman, diagnosed with mosquito-borne disease dengue, died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Tuesday night.
The deceased, Rahima Begum, 50, was the wife of Rafiqul Islam of Azrail village in Tala upazila of Satkhira.
Dr Sailendranath Biswas, resident medical officer of KMCH, said Rahima was hospitalised on Monday with dengue. She died around 11:30pm.
So far, 11 people have died of dengue in the district.
In Barishal, a schoolboy died of dengue at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on Wednesday noon.
The deceased was identified as Jihad, 14, a Class-VIII student and son of Babul Hawaladar of Laxmipur in Muladi upazila.
Asit Bhusan Das, duty doctor at the medicine unit-4, said Jihad was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning. He died while undergoing treatment around 1:30pm.
Since January, 78,617 people had been hospitalised with dengue and 75,225 of them were released from hospitals after full recovery.
At present, 3,165 patients are being treated at hospitals – 1,434 in Dhaka.
Since January, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) received information about 197 dengue-related deaths. So far, it has reviewed 101 cases and confirmed 60 dengue deaths.
