Chattogram, Oct 21 (UNB) – A tribunal here on Monday sentenced four people to death and two others to life imprisonment for killing trader Ranjan Sinha Chowdhury in Hathazari upazila in 2008.
The condemned convicts were identified as Mohsin, Imran, Forkan and Abdul Quader while the lifers are Abdul Monaf and Shahadat. The latter duo was also fined Tk 2 lakh each and in case of failure to pay the penalty, they will have to stay two more years in jail.
Judge of the Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Md Abdul Halim pronounced the verdict in the afternoon.
According to the prosecution, as a sequel to previous enmity, some miscreants kidnapped Ranjan and killed him at Jugihat in the upazila on May 8, 2008. They dumped the body in a pond under water hyacinth.
Victim’s wife filed a case accusing six people with Hathazari Police Station.
