Despite some provocations -- airspace violations and landmine planting -- the government exercised restraint, Shahidul Haque said adding that the Rohingya issue is a conflict between Myanmar and its people.
The Foreign Secretary made the remark while addressing a seminar organised by Institute of Conflict, Law and Development Studies (ICLDS).
The seminar titled ‘Rohingya Crisis: Response of Bangladesh and the International Community’ was chaired by Chairman of ICLDS and former Ambassador Muhammad Zamir, said a press release.
The Foreign Secretary said Bangladesh was confronted with formidable challenges following the influx of Rohingyas.
Despite all those challenges, he said, the government stabilised the situation now under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Bangladesh gave shelter to 1.1 million Rohingyas and invited international community, including the press, to visit the areas where Rohingyas took shelter.
The Foreign Secretary said the government also provided necessary information to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leaves here for New York via London on Friday to attend the 73rd UNGA session where she would attend a number of high-level meetings.
The Prime Minister will raise the Rohingya issue at the UNGA.
