The injured was identified as Md Salahuddin, manager of Korean Camp of Cosmos Group that supplies food and logistics to the local and foreign employees of the power plant.
Salahuddin said some local miscreants used to threaten him to leave the power plant project site and they swooped on him around 11 pm on Saturday, leaving him badly wounded. He suffered serious injuries in his head and back.
The attackers fled the scene when locals rushed to the spot hearing screams of the victim.
The injured camp manager was admitted to Chakaria Hospital.
Fakhruzzaman, project in-charge of Cosmos Group, said work on Matarbari coal-fired power plant is progressing fast involving around Tk 40,000 crore and many local and foreign companies are working here. “But the development work is being disrupted by local miscreants.”
It will be difficult for foreign employees and companies to work here if action is not taken against the miscreants, he said.
Meanwhile, Assistant Supervisor of Korean Camp Imam Hossain said, “Doing job here is becoming harder due to terrorist activities. Many will leave the place if the miscreants are not reined in.”
Officer-in-Charge of Maheshkhali Police Station Probhash Kumar Chandra Dhar said they are investigating the matter and legal action would be taken after a complaint is lodged in this regard.
