Dhaka, May 30 (UNB) – The Red Cross Society of China has donated US$ 100,000 to Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) to help the people affected by Cyclone Fani.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Zuo handed over the cheque of donation to the BDRCS Secretary General Md Feroz Salah Uddin at a function held at the Chinese Embassy here on Thursday.
BDRCS director Nazmul Azam Khan, assistant director (International Relation & Communication) Kh. Enayetullah Akram Palash and Chinese Embassy officials were present.
Ambassador Zuo said their support will continue to help run humanitarian activities carried out by the BDRCS.
The government estimated the damage caused by Cyclone Fani at Tk 536.61 crore. It affected the environment, infrastructure and livelihood of the people.
The cyclone flooded 63,000 hectares of land and destroyed crops on 1,800 hectares.
