The Department of Population Sciences and SNV Netherlands Development Organization jointly organised the conference at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference while Meher Afroz Chumki, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, addressed the programme as chief guest.
Professor Md Mainul Islam, chairman at political science department, was in the chair.
In her speech, Chumki said sexual and reproductive health and rights issues are neglected in Bangladesh. “Now, we have to change our outlook to emphasise the rights in workplaces,” she said.
‘’We have to take serious initiative for the female garment workers regarding their reproductive health and rights. We have to ensure safe reproductive health system which will help us achieve SDGs. Our government has been working in this regard,” she said.
Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for comprehensive efforts to ensure healthcare rights of female RMG workers.
He also urged the concerned people to take effective measures to ensure safe working place for women. He emphasised raising awareness among people in this regard.
Ambassador of Netherlands in Bangladesh Harry Verweij, Country Director of SNV Netherlands Development Organization Jason Belanger and Country Director of International Labor Organization Toumo Poutianen addressed the conference as special guests.
Halida Hanum Akhter, Professor of John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA, presented keynote speech at the occasion while Professor Mohammad Bellal Hossain delivered welcome address.
