Dhaka, Jan 2 (UNB) - Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has said the government of India will continue cooperation with Bangladesh as a close neighbour.
She called Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Tuesday and congratulated him on his election victory in the 11th parliamentary elections.
The Indian Minister expressed the hope to work together with Foreign Minister Ali in future, said the Foreign Ministry here on Wednesday.
Both the ministers co-chair the Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) to coordinate sectorial collaboration between the two countries.
Foreign Minister Ali thanked the Indian External Affairs Minister for the call.
He expressed the hope that both the countries would continue to work together for the benefit of the peoples of the two neighbouring countries.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller met Foreign Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here on Wednesday morning and discussed various issues of mutual interest.
The Ambassador, however, did not talk to the press after the meeting.
UN Resident Coordinator in Dhaka Mia Seppo also met Foreign Secretary Haque at his office in the afternoon.
She, however, did not talk to media after the meeting.
Earlier on Tuesday, outgoing Indian High Commissioner Harsh V Shringla made his farewell call on Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali.
The High Commissioner conveyed his best wishes for the New Year and thanked the Foreign Minister for the cooperation extended by Bangladesh during his tenure in promoting friendly ties between the two countries, said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
