Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus death on Wednesday. Four more people have been diagnosed with coronavirus, taking the number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 14. Meanwhile, the global death toll from Covid-19 reached 8,232. The virus has so far infected more than 200,000 people.
In Kushtia, a mobile court fined Shariful Islam, 38, son of Wares Ali of Mojlispur in Mirpur upazila, Tk 5,000. Shariful returned from Qatar on March 13.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sohel Maruf, who operated a mobile court, said Shariful violated went to a bank in Bheramara area while being in home quarantine.
Twenty expatriates have been kept in home quarantine in the district, he said.
In Tangail, a Singapore-returnee was fined Tk 10,000 for going out of home in Sakhipur upazila.
Hamidul Islam, 36, son of Selim Mia of Boilarpur, returned from Singapore on March 7.
Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Wahiduzzaman said 97 people were kept in home quarantine in Tangail.
In Cumilla, Absarul Islam Mohin, 26, son of Samsul Haque, who came from Italy on March 16, was also fined Tk 10,000.
UNO Shahidul Alam said they found him roaming in the village at Misri in Laksham.
In Sunamganj, a mobile court fined Saudi-returnee Md Gias Uddin, son of Md Moinul Islam, Tk 10,000 in Chhatak upazila.
Civil Surgeon Dr Samsuddin said 40 expatriates were kept in home quarantine in the district.
In Moulvibazar, three expatriates were fined by the local administration for the same offence.
Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Syed Amzad Hossain operated the mobile court. Each of the expatriates was fined Tk 5,000, he said.
A total of 151 foreign returnees were kept in home quarantine in the district, said Civil Surgeon Dr Tawhis Ahmad.
In Madaripur, two expatriates from Spain and Italy were fined by the mobile court in Kalkini upazila.
A total of 220 expatriates were kept in home quarantine in the district, said Deputy Commissioner Md Wahidul Islam.
In Chattogram, four expatriates were fined by the local administration as they went out of home in Hathazari, Raozan, Patiya and Anowara upazilas.
They were fined Tk 10,000 each, said Assistant Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Masudir Rahman.
