Standing on a point of order in the House, he also alleged that terrorist activities cannot be removed from the university campuses due to lack of the government’s good will.
Referring to different media reports, the BNP MP said Chhatra League tortured four Dhaka University students overnight, and later they were handed over to police through the teachers of the proctorial body.
“A few days back, 25 students of Buet were expelled for killing its student Abrar. We can’t free educational institutions from terrorism because of the lack of the government’s good will,” he observed.
Stating that universities are the highest places for acquiring knowledge, Harun said the government is being failed to ensure the freedom speech of its opponents. “If this is the case, parliament can pass a law banning the universities.”
He further said, “I think parliament should amend the constitution and pass a law restoring the decision taken during the introduction of Baksal in 1975 regarding articles of the constitution that enshrined the basic rights. The country is now moving towards a one-party rule.”
The BNP MP also alleged that the ruling party candidates and their supporters are not obeying the election code of conduct as law enforcers and magistrates are not discharging their duties properly. “So, what is necessity to stage a farce in the name of election?”
Referring to a newspaper report, he said around 1,825 cases were filed against the BNP candidates while only 53 cases against the ruling party ones. “How will we restore people’s confidence in the election system if such a situation prevails?”
About a media report that Chhatra League’s former leaders are involved in drug peddling, Harun questioned as to why the law enforcers are not taking action against them when the government announced zero tolerance against drug.
