University Fistula Centre, BSMMU and Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Samity (BANASAS) in association with Fistula Care Plus of Engender Health Bangladesh, an international development organisation, arranged the programme featuring a discussion on fistula, exchanging greetings with fistula patients and serving special food to them at the fistula ward of the hospital.
Prof Dr Tripti Rani Das, chairman of BSMMU Obstetrics and Gynaecology department, presided over the programme, said a BANASAS press release.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Tripti Rani demanded nationalisation of the fistula centre and put emphasis on the rehabilitation and creating work opportunities for incurable fistula patients.
Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Bangladesh (OGSB) Secretary General Prof Dr Saleha Begum Chowdhury, fistula surgeons Prof Dr Fahmida Zabin and Dr Sharmin Mahmud, Dr Sheuly Chowdhury and Prof Dr Begum Nasrin of BSMMU, Engender Health Bangladesh Country Programme Manager and Global Event Manager Dr SK Nazmul Huda, BANASAS President Nasima Akter Shoma and General Secretary Anjuman Ara Shilpi, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Speakers recalled the affection of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the neglected section of the society.
They urged all to come forward to the treatment and rehabilitation of the obstetric fistula patients.
After the discussion, special food was served among the fistula patients of the hospital.
