Pabna, Feb 19 (UNB) – A suspected drug trader was injured in a reported gunfight with police at Mathurapur in Chatmohar upazila early Tuesday.
The injured was Abdullah alias Jahid, son of late Shahidullah of Chargodindapur in Boraigram of Natore upazila and is a listed drug trader, said Fazal-e-Khoda, assistant superintendent of Chatmohar circle police.
Being informed that a group of drug traders gathered in front of Mathurapur Saint Ritar’s High School, a team of police conducted a drive around 3 am, said the police official.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the drug traders opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back, triggering the gunfight, leaving Jahid injured with bullet.
The injured was admitted to Pabna General Hospital.
Police recovered 20 bottles of Phensidyl and a revolver with two round bullets from the spot.
