“The outbreak of Aedes mosquitoes and the rate of dengue infections are declining due to the special drives taken for destroying the breeding grounds of the mosquitoes. The situation is now stable,” he said.
The mayor came up with the remarks while inaugurating a drive on the premises of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital to destroy larvae of Aedes mosquitoes.
“All the government organisations have been working together at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to control dengue. Hopefully, the dengue will come under control within the targeted time,” Khokon said.
DNCC has already conducted drives at 58,748 houses to destroy Aedes larvae, and members of Bangladesh Scouts have inspected 1,11,000 houses and distributed leaflets to raise public awareness, he added.
DNCC is also operating anti-mosquito drives at Nursing Institute of DMCH, Dr Fazle Rabbi Hall in Dhaka's Bakshi Bazar areas, he said.
