Dhaka, Dec 18 (UNB) – The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday fixed a budget of Tk 271.83 crore for five forces who will be deployed to maintain law and order during the next parliamentary polls.
They are – police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Coast Guard, Border Guard Bangladesh, Ansar and VDP.
Of the amount, Tk 63,22,84,250 have been allocated for police, Tk 10,20,28,850 for RAB, Tk 1,56,00,000 for Coast Guard, Tk 33,02,43,884 for BGB, Tk 163,81,75,600 for Ansar and VDP.
Village Defence Party, or VDP, members will be deployed in national election duty for the first time. About 45,000 VDP members will get Tk 1,000 each for their two-day duty.
EC officials also hinted that its expenditure during the election may exceed its budget of Tk 700 crore.
Bangladesh will go to polls on December 30.
