The approval came from the weekly Ecnec meeting held at NEC conference room here with Ecnec Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said, "A total of 40 projects were placed in the today's Ecnec meeting. But Ecnec approved 39 projects involving an overall cost of Tk 86,686.95 crore."
Of the total estimated cost, Tk 66,466.51 crore will come from the national exchequer, while Tk 19,907.23 crore as project assistance and Tk 313.21 crore from the own funds of the organisations concerned.
The Planning Minister said Ecnec will sit in more meetings before the next general election if it does not go against the law.
He said the inflation rate came down to 5.40 percent in October from 5.43 percent in September last.
Of the 39 projects, 31 are new and the rest eight are revised ones.
In terms of project cost, the biggest three projects are 'Construction of Dual Guage Double Rail line from Joydebpur to Ishwardi of Dhaka Railway Project' involving Tk 14,250.61 crore; 'Excavation and Development of 100-foot wide Canals on both sides of Purbachal Link Road (Kuril to Boalia) (1st revised) Project' involving Tk 10,329.66 crore; and 'Construction of Multi-lane Road Tunnel under Karnafuli River Project' with Tk 9,880.40 crore.
