The awardees are - Jahangirnagar University Zoology Prof Dr Kabirul Bashar, Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers Association President Mahiuddin Ahmed, Wildlife Expert Alam Shahin, playwright Mohon Khan, Banglavision Senior Journalist Sharmin Ibrahim, DBC News Staff Reporter Redwan Ahmed, News24 correspondent Nazmul Huda and Narsingdi Presidency College Founder Chairman Dr Md Moazzem Hossain.
The prize giving ceremony took place following a discussion arranged by Green Movement, an environmental and social organisation, marking their first anniversary at the Jatiya Press Club.
While delivering keynote speech, Dr Kabirul Bashar said climate change is partially responsible for dengue outbreak.
“The month of February saw record rainfall this year after 1953. The waterlogging followed by the rain helped Aedes mosquito multiply,” he said.
Green Movement Chairman Bappi Sardar presented the keynote paper saying, “We (Green Movement) are working to implement the plan of planting 20 million trees across the country.”
He said the organisation has already enlisted 15000 members and formed 30 district level committees.
