Chattogram, Dec 21 (UNB) – At least five people sustained bullet injuries as miscreants opened fire on a campaign of Jatiya Party candidate from Chattogram-16 at Chambal in Bashkhali upazila on Friday evening.
The rally of JaPa candidate Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury came under the attack in the evening, said Md Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bashkhali Police Station.
Afruzul Haque Tutul, additional police superintendent (South) of Chattogram, said Mahmudul’s supporters protested the attack by blocking Bashkhali-Chattogram road and disconnecting electricity supply in Bailchhari area.
The JaPa activists alleged that the supporters of Awami League MP and the party nominated candidate of the constituency Mostafizur Rahman carried out the gun attack.
Meanwhile, police brought the situation under control around 9 pm, said Afruzul Haque.
Police were conducting operation to arrest the attackers, he added.
