Dhaka, Mar 3 (UNB) – Turning down the trial court’s acquittal, the High Court on Sunday sentenced an employee of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) to 11 years’ imprisonment in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court also ordered Shafiullah, Rajuk senior assistant (estate), to surrender before the lower court within 15 days.
A bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam handed down the verdict after hearing an appeal filed by the ACC challenging the lower court verdict, said Deputy Attorney General AKM Alimuddin Manik.
He said after examining all documents, the HC found his involvement in disappearing important records and jailed him.
According to the case statement, Shafiullah disappeared 57 records regarding multi-storey buildings from the offices of Rajuk authorised officer-1 and 3 between 1998 and 2005.
Later, the ACC filed a case against Shafiullah with Motijheel Police Station on October 10, 2013.
On November 21, 2017, Judge of Dhaka Special Judge Court-7 Munshi Rafiul Alam acquitted him.
