He expressed deep concern over the presence of a large number of Rohingyas in Bangladesh and their children with no scope of education.
Dr Momen emphasised the fact that the Rohingya crisis was created by Myanmar and the solution of this crisis also lies with them, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He raised the issue when newly-appointed Head of Delegation of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) in Bangladesh Pierre Dorbes presented his credentials to him on Wednesday.
The Foreign Minister welcomed Dorbes to Bangladesh, and expressed deep appreciation for ICRC’s invaluable role in supporting Bangladesh nationals during the 1971 Liberation War and their recent humanitarian assistance for the displaced Rohingya people taking shelter in Bangladesh.
Dorbes thanked the Foreign Minister for the cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He also hoped that the activities and support of ICRC to Bangladesh will be sustained in the future.
In reply, the Foreign Minister assured him that this excellent cooperation between Bangladesh and ICRC will be continued in every possible aspect.
The Foreign Minister apprised Dorbes of the sustainable development that Bangladesh is achieving with strong determination and targeted approach.
Dorbes lauded Bangladesh for the remarkable economic growth over the recent years.
Before coming to Bangladesh, Dorbes served as the Head of the ICRC Regional Delegation for East Asia in Beijing till July, 2019.
