Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujon attended the celebrations as the chief guest held at city’s IDEB Bhaban auditorium.
High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das gave an overview of the capacity-building courses offered under the programme and emphasised the contribution of these courses to bringing the peoples of both the countries together.
Around 300 ITEC alumni from all walks of life attended the event and some of them shared their training experiences in India.
A short cultural programme was also held.
The ITEC programme was instituted in 1964 as part of India's Development Assistance Programme within the framework of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation and the South-South cooperative strategy, offering developing countries the benefit of India's development experience and appropriate technologies.
Every year, over 10,000 training slots are offered to 161 partner countries for training courses in various areas like Accounts, Audit, Management, SME, Rural Development, Parliamentary Affairs, etc.
Over 3,800 young Bangladeshi professionals have undergone such specialised short and medium term courses in India under the ITEC programme since 2007, according to Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
