The authorities of Islamic University celebrated the 57th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on its campus in Kushtia on Sunday.
IU Sheikh Russel Hall organised the event in front of the hall in the morning.
Marking the day, IU Vice-Chancellor Professor M Abdus Salam, Pro-VC Professor M Shahinoor Rahman, hall provost Professor Rabiul Hossain and acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif placed floral wreaths at Sheikh Russel mural around noon.
Later, a cake-cutting ceremony was held there.
Among others, IU Shapla Forum president Professor M Rezuanul Islam, its general secretary Professor M Mahbubar Rahman, Sheikh Russel Hall house tutor Liton Baron Sikdar and among others were present on the occasion.
A webinar on Sheikh Russel will be held at night, Professor Rabiul Hossain said.
IU Bangabandhu Parishad officer unit and IU BCL unit activists also celebrated the day.
On August 15, 1975, Sheikh Russel was killed along with most of his family members, including Bangabandhu, when he was just a student of class four.
