The scuffle ensued between the pro-VC and anti-VC teachers of the ruling party when anti-VC teachers of ruling party tried to prevent Bangladesh Krishok League President and the syndicate member Motahar Hossain Mollah from entering the meeting room.
However, Motahar Hossain Mollah managed to enter the meeting room later with the help of VC backed teachers to fulfill meeting-quorum.
The meeting started and continued while the Anti-VC syndicate members boycotted the meeting claiming that JU Vice Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam did not cooperate with them.
Anti-VC syndicate member Prof Dr Laek Sazzad Andallah claimed, Vice Chancellor Professor Farzan Islam did not cooperate with them about the syndicate meeting.
“We requested VC for not raising the fresh teacher recruitment issue in the meeting till the election of different unelected posts including dean, syndicate members, VC panel polls and JUCSU held on the campus. But, she did not pay heed to our demand,”said Prof Sazzad.
Meanwhile, Anti-VC teachers’ organization ‘Bangabandhur Adarsha O Mukti Juddher Chetonay Biswashi Progotishil Shikkhok Shomaj’, denounced such incident at a press conference in the evening held at the Old registrar building premises on the campus.
Spokesperson and the secretary of the teachers’ group Associate Prof Farid Ahmed said, “We became astonished that VC did not cooperate with our elected syndicate members. Maximum syndicate members are not elected right now.
“All of our syndicate members are elected. But, it is very regrettable that VC was continuing the meeting without them,” he alleged.
He claimed JU VC appointed her loyal members in syndicate with her executive power.
“Prof Farzana Islam appointed many controversial people in different noted posts on the campus including provost, dean and transport official which is unprecedented in the university’s history,” he further alleged.
Meanwhile, BNP-backed teachers protested the recruitment of fresh teachers at Institute of Information Technology (IIT) alleging that JU VC has recruited new teachers for the institute holding its director post.
They also demanded the immediate appointment of new director of the institute following the university’s rules and regulations.
In the meantime, left leaning students’ group staged sit-in demanding the cancellation of departmental development fees from the admission seekers during the meeting.
