According to upazila education office, the four primary schools out of 68 were identified as ‘very risky’.
But the authorities are being compelled to hold classes in the risky buildings as they have no other alternative for running the academic activities.
The four schools are—Ideal Government Primary School, Abinash Chandrashil Government Primary School, Anandanagar Adarsha Government Primary School and Bhabanipur Government Primary School.
During a recent visit to Abinash Chandrashil Government Primary School in Ghatbhog union of the upazila, the UNB correspondent found that a number of cracks have been developed on walls of the school building while plasters often fall off the ceiling, creating panic among the students.
However, the school authorities have been running some academic activities in a club room beside the school.
Humayun Sheikh, a guardian, said, “I feel scared to send my child to the school sny accident may occur anytime for the vulnerable condition of the school building.”
Farida Khanam, headmaster of the school, said, “The school building has been lying in such appalling state for long but we have no alternative place to take classes.”
Abul Kashem, Upazila Education Officer, said the risky buildings have been declared abandoned and the higher authorities concerned have already been informed about the situation.
