The minister said this while speaking at an annual conference of Agrani Bank Limited held at hotel InterContinental Dhaka in the capital.
“The banking sector of the country is in a poor state. We have to bring glamour in the sector. Poverty must be chased away from the country. If we all assist Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina than we never fail. Employment will be created in every family within a short time,” he also said.
The minister added that the honest traders will get more facilities. More default loans cannot be allowed. So he asked lenders to be conscious about giving loan. Long-term loans cannot be given accepting short-term deposits. He also stressed the importance of increasingly looking outside the traditional banking system for raising capital now, particularly to the bond market.
“Tax net should be increased for development of the country, not to raise tax amount,” the finance minister said.
Dr. Zaid Bakht, chairman of Board of Directors of Agrani Bank presided over the function while Bangladesh Bank governor Fazle Kabir was present as special guest.
