The arrestee Mizanur Rahman arrived at the airport by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-222) from Muscat around 11 am.
Mizanur was detained from the green channel area on suspicion, said Dr Shahidul Islam, director general of Criminal Intelligence and Intelligence department (CIID).
Later, the customs officials recovered eight gold bars and gold ornaments weighing 1.03 kilograms hidden inside his travel bag.
The market value of the gold is around Tk50 lakhs, said the CIID DG.
Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two men along with 7 gold bars weighing around 196 grams while they were trying to smuggle the gold to India through Kayba bordering area under Sharsha upazila in Jashore district on Friday morning.
The arrestees--Moniruzzaman ,48, son of Late Abdul hamid and Abul Khair, 50, son of Abdul Khaleque, both hailing Kolaroa upazila in Sathkhira District--were handed over to Sharsha Police Station, said Lt Col Emranullah Sarker, commanding officer of Khulna BGB-21.
