While distributing relief materials among the fire-affected people of the slum, he also said their party will raise a demand in parliament for the rehabilitation of the victims of the fire by the government.
“The destitute who lost their all belongings and homes in fire at Chalantika’ slum will have to be rehabilitated at government initiatives. We shouldn’t forget the destitute also cast votes for electing a government,” Quader said.
Stating that there is an allocation in the national budget for the welfare of the poor and destitute, he urged the government to spend money from there for the rehabilitation of fire victims of the Mirpur slum.
“We’ve been here to stand beside you with the help of our leaders and activists. We’ll always remain beside the helpless people with our best ability,” Quader told the fire-hit people.
Jatiya Party Secretary General Moshiur Rahman Ranga said the land of Chalantika slum is a Khas one, government owned fallow land, and no one can occupy it.
He urged the government to make a list of victims of the fire at the slum for their proper rehabilitation.
The Jatiya Party leader also called upon their party leaders and activists to extend their helping hands towards the fire-affected people.
The massive fire that broke out at the slum on Friday evening was doused by firefighters early Saturday, six hours after it had broken out.
