Jhenaidah, Aug 29 (UNB) –A case has been filed against a local rice trader in the connection with seizure of 52 sacks of rice meant for distribution among the ultra-poor under the vulnerable group feeding (VGF) programme from Haripur village in Sadar upazila.
The accused is Azizul Islam, son of Kawsar Ali of the village.
Project implementation office assistant Jahid Hasan filed the case with Sadar Police Station on Wednesday.
A total of 52 sacks of rice meant for distribution among the ultra-poor under the VGF scheme were recovered from three ponds in Haripur village of the upazila on Tuesday.
Being informed by locals, a team of local administration recovered the rice from the ponds, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shammi Islam.
Azizul Islam went into hiding immediately after the incident, said Khurshid Alam, chairman of Maharazpur Union Parishad.
Legal action will be taken against those involved in the incident, said the UNO.
