Savar, Mar 14 (UNB) - The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) on Thursday demolished more than 55 illegal establishments and fined one of them around TK 31 lakhs during an eviction drive in Savar’s Amin Bazar area.
Some 20 boundary walls, 20 bamboo jetties, 20 tin-shed houses were dismantled Thursday’s drive, said BIWTA magistrate Mostafizur Rahman.
The owner of a stone stockpile near Amin Bazar bridge was fined TK 31.5 Lakhs for illegally encroaching 50 acres of government land, he said, adding that around 100 acres of land was recovered by evicting Rupali Shaikat Housing in the area.
On Wednesday, more than 50 establishments including Silicon Housing and Akash Villa Housing’s multistoried buildings, were demolished during an eviction drive in Savar’s Salmasi area.
The first phase of eviction drive along the Buriganga and Turag rivers ended on February 18. This was the 18th day of the 2nd phase of eviction drive.
