From the appointment of Dr Susane Giti as Major General to the victory in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup, the year produced some memorable moments for Bangladesh as a country saw the events for the first time in her history.

With the promotion of Dr Susane Giti to the rank of Major General, Bangladesh Armed Forces got for the first time in its history a female army officer at such a high rank.
Susane Giti, MBBS, MCPS, FCPS, MMAD, is currently serving as commandant of Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP).
Maj Gen Dr Susane Giti obtained the MBBS degree from Rajshahi Medical College in 1985. Later, in 1986, he joined the Bangladesh Army as a physician with the rank of captain.
In 1996 she was the first woman to obtain FCPS degree in Hematology.
She also served as the expert pathologist for UN peacekeeping missions and several military hospitals.
Flight Cadet Squadron Junior Under Officer Riana Azad made history by becoming the first woman in Bangladesh Air Forces Academy to receive the coveted 'Sword of Honour' for her best all-round performance since the inclusion of Female officers in BAF in 2000.
The bright woman received her trophy, certificate and flying badges from President Abdul Hamid on December 13 after commissioning.
Flight Cadet Riana Azad completed her NO 75 BAFA Course with a total of 61 flight cadets including 9 female flight cadets in the last year.
Aliya Mannan conducted a full flight on December 24 from Dhaka to Riyadh which was the first flight led by a woman in Bangladesh.
Captain Aliya Mannan was the first female captain who flies Boeing 777-300 ER, the largest aircraft of Boeing.
Alongside, Munzarin Raian became Bangladesh’s first female first officer (FO) to operate “Akash Beena,” Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner which was added to Biman’s fleet on August 19, 2018.
The experienced pilot Aliya started her career in 1992 as the first gazette pilot.
Bangladesh won Women’s T20 Asia Cup title for the first time after beating India by 3 wickets at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur.
It was Bangladesh’s second victory over India in the tournament.
