The two convicts are Arifur Rahman Piyas and Morshed Ali Suman of Char Darbesh village of the upazila. Both remain absconding.
Additional Sessions Judge of the district Muhammad Faruk also fined them Tk 10,000 each, or in default serve another year in prison.
The court also sentenced the duo to three years in prison along with Tk 10,000 as fine on another count of hijacking the motorcycle of the victim. They will have to serve six months in prison if they fail to pay the amount.
Court sources said the oil trader – Arif Hossain -- went missing after leaving home for work place on April 17, 2014.
Amir Hossain, a brother of the deceased, lodged a general diary with Sudharam Police Station in this regard.
The next day, police recovered the oil trader’s buried body from behind the house of Arifur Rahman Piyas.
Later, a murder case was filed with the police station accusing five people including Piyas and Suman.
After looking into the case, the investigation officer pressed charge against Piyas, Suman and one Sobuj.
Hearing the case, the court on Sunday passed the verdict sentencing two and acquitting three of the charges.
In the court, Advocate Borhan Ahmed Mohon and AM Hasan Mahmud represented the state while Advocate Harunur Rashid Hawladar and Advocate Swapan Chandra Paul argued for the accused.
