“The EC thinks the election was held largely in a peaceful manner. Out of 5,847 polling stations in 78 upazila parishads, the polling in 28 was suspended for various reasons,” he told a post-election briefing at Nirbachan Bhaban here in the afternoon.
Helaluddin said the fresh polls to the suspended polling stations will be held later.
However, he said, the polls to other stations were held fairly.
Replying to a question, he said three election officers were detained.
Besides, the EC secretary said, 10 people were put behind bars after their conviction by mobile courts for their involvement in anomalies, he said.
In reply to a question over voter turnout, the EC Secretary said they would be able to inform it later.
The EC Secretary, however, said the voter turnout might be satisfactory by and large.
He said an election usually witnesses high turnout of voters when it is very competitive and all political parties participate in it.
