“The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities have given us written permission on different conditions to hold the rally tomorrow (Sunday) at Suhrawardy Udyan,” BNP publicity affairs secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne told UNB.
The BNP leader said DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia gave the permission as he and party organising secretary Abdus Salam Azad met him at his office around 11:30am.
Later, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office said they were given permission to hold the rally from 2pm to 5pm.
Rizvi said their rally will be successful as their senior leaders will deliver speeches.
Party sources said the permission was given based on 22 conditions.
On Monday last, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press conference announced that they sought permission from the authorities concerned to hold a public rally either at Suhrawardy Udyan or in front of their party’s Nayapaltan central office on Thursday.
But the party rescheduled it on Tuesday for Saturday.
Meanwhile, the party on Thursday sought fresh permission from the DMP authorities to hold the public rally on Sunday as the authorities reportedly requested it to change the rally schedule and submit a fresh application for the permission.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said they will unveil their party’s future course of action and strategy at the Suhrawardy Udyan public rally.
BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed hinted that their party will announce fresh action programmes from the rally.
The party last held its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 12, 2017.
