Dhaka, June 3 (UNB) – Noting that there should be ‘working understanding’ in any democracy, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday urged politicians to refrain from using toxic words against each other that deteriorate bilateral relations.
“We the politicians use venomous words at each other which destroys the atmosphere. We should bring a behavioural change in us,” he said while talking to reporters at the Secretariat in the afternoon.
Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said many problems can be resolved if there is working understanding. “Heated words and behaviour sometimes lead to deterioration in relations among us.”
Turning to BNP, he said the party has turned into a ‘failed’ opposition party. “They (BNP) call the government a failed one whereas they’re a complete failed opposition party,” he said.
About Jatiya Oikyafront convener Dr Kamal Hossain’s demand for releasing BNP chairperson Khaleda before Eid, the minister said, “BNP has the right to get space as a political party. But were they able to create such pressure on the government as an opposition party over different issues, including Khaleda’s release?”
“BNP is a major political party of the country and Khaleda Zia was Prime Minister of the country for several terms. But were they able to create much pressure on the government and the court? I haven’t yet got the answer from them,” he added.
On Sunday, Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain demanded the release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and other political prisoners before the Eid-ul-Fitr.
