Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader on Monday urged the government to take necessary steps to ensure free coronavirus vaccine, once it is ready.
“We’re assured by the Prime Minister of getting the vaccine [in time]. We don’t want to see a situation where those who’ve money will get the vaccine, and those who don’t have the money won’t get it,” he said.
The Jatiya Party chief said, “It has to be ensured that every poor person in the country will get the vaccine free of cost as soon as it’s available.”
GM Quader, also the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, made the remarks while handing over cheques and financial assistance to the helpless leaders and activists of Jatiya Party arranged by its Dhaka north city unit at the party chairman’s Banani office.
He said healthcare services for corona patients must be ensured at every government hospital. “Hospitals that have corona medical services need to be strengthened further while corona units have to be introduced on an emergency basis at the hospitals that still lack it.”
The Jatiya Party chairman said people are in a serious confusion about the exact corona situation. "No one knows whether the infection has increased or decreased. Again, it’s not clear whether the death rate in corona has spiked or declined.”
He said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is saying the corona units at different hospitals are empty with medical equipment lying unused, but there are still media reports that corona affected people are running from one hospital to another for having access to medical services “This has clearly exposed the lack of coordination in the work of the health directorate.”
GM Quader said Jatiya Party has been with common people since the beginning of corona outbreak as it has distributed face-masks and leaflets to create awareness.
Besides, he said, their party leaders and activists across the country took food aid to the doorsteps of helpless and needy people.
He said the telemedicine team formed by Jatiya Party is still providing people with treatment assistance. “Our party leaders and activists also formed teams in different areas, including Sonargaon in Narayanganj, to help bury people who died of corona.”
