IU vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest at the central football playground of the university around 10:30am.
While addressing the inaugural session, IU VC said that every student should take part in sports, cultural and other extra-curriculum activities so that they could abstain from drugs and other offensive acts.
A total of 32 departments out of 33 will take part in the tournament, Muhammad Sohel, director of IU Physical Education department, told UNB.
IU pro-vice-chancellor Professor M Shahinoor Rahman, Treasurer Professor M Selim Toha, acting registrar SM Abdul Latif, proctor and syndicate member Professor M Mahbubar Rahman and student advisor Professor Paresh Chandra Barman, among others, were present at the session.
