“I don’t know much about the current players but I’m sure they’ll do well in the World Cup as they are passionate about their game,” he told reporters on Thursday at Kurmitola Golf Club in the capital.
Bangladesh played their first World Cup in 1999 under the coaching of the West Indian great. The next edition is scheduled to be played from May 30 to July 14.
The Caribbean great came to Bangladesh to promote golf. He was invited by National Bank, title sponsor of Bangabandhu Golf Open 2019.
Greenidge said he enjoyed playing golf as an amateur and that he was happy to return. “Bangladesh is like a home to me,” he said.
Bangladesh qualified to play the World Cup for the first time under his coaching. The government gave him honorary citizenship.
“Bangladesh are doing well in international cricket. But the World Cup will take place in England. We want to see a successful World Cup in England. At the same time, we hope to see some close matches in the biggest event of cricket,” he told the media.
Greenidge said although Tigers lacked consistency they were far better now.
“They are doing well but there is a lack of consistency. They can do big things in the World Cup, if they play their best brand of cricket,” he said.
“If they can play good cricket consistently, they will do better. Consistency is the most important thing in cricket,” the former Bangladesh coach said.
