Dhaka, June 16 (UNB) - Sheikh Russel KC earned a comfortable 4-2 goal victory over Dhaka Mohammedan in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football at the floodlit Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Sunday.
Nigerian forward Raphael Odovin Onwrebe struck twice while winger Biplu Ahmed and Nigerian defender Ndukaku Udoka Alison netted one goal each for Sheikh Russel KC.
Striker Mohammad Toklis Ahmed scored both the goals for Dhaka Mohammedan SC.
With this, Sheikh Russel KC remained in the 3rd slot of the 13-team league securing 36 points from their 15 matches, three points behind defending champions Dhaka Abahani and seven points adrift of league leader Bashundhara Kings.
Sheikh Russel won eleven matches, drew three and lost one match.
On the other hand, Dhaka Mohammedan SC remained in the 10th slot in the league table with their previous credit of 13 points from 16 encounters with three wins, four draws and nine defeats.
Sheikh Russel KC got their first success in the very 9th minute as their winger Biplu Ahmed opened the account for the team (1-0).
Just six minutes after the first goal, forward Mohammad Toklis Ahmed levelled the margin for Mohammedan SC in the 15th minute (1-1).
However, rampant Sheikh Russel KC started to play attacking football and bagged its fruit in the 18th minute as Alison doubled the score for his side (2-1).
In the second half, the traditional black and white outfit, Mohammedan, came alive and put pressure on their mighty opponents and in the 49th minute, Mohammad Toklis Ahmed levelled the score again (2-2).
Both teams produced some close chances but failed to widen their margin.
In the 69th minute, forward Raphael Odovin Onwrebe put Sheikh Russel KC ahead scoring his first goal (3-2) while Nigerian forward stroke again to seal the victory for his side scoring his 10th goal in the league in the 86th minute (4-2).
With the feat, Raphael is now in the third slot in the scorer list of BPL with 10 goals, one goal behind Abahani’s Nabib Newaz Ziban (11 goals) and four goals behind the top scorer Sunday Chizoba (14 goals) of Dhaka Abahani Ltd.
On Monday, Saif Sporting Club will take on Brothers Union at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh while Muktijoddha Sangsad KC will face oNoFel Sporting Club at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj at 4 pm.
