General Secretary of Bangladesh Tennis Federation (BTF) Golam Morshed, Executive Director and Head of Games and Sports of meet's sponsor Walton Group FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn, Deputy Managing Director of Islami Bank Abu Reza Md Yeahia and Managing Director of Prime Bank Md Tawhidul Alam Khan were also present on the occasion.
In the girls’ team event, Prattasha Das conceded 3-6, 0-6 defeat against Azim Ara of the Maldives in the first singles but Sadia Afrin equalised the margin for Bangladesh beating Sashi Saeed 6-2, 6-2 in their reverse singles.
In the girls’ doubles, Prattasha Das and Sadia Afrin pair of Bangladesh defeated Azim Ara and Sashi Saeed of the Maldives 6-4, 6-3.
In the boys’ team event, Bangladesh conceded a 0-3 defeat against India.
Shajib Hossain of Bangladesh conceded 0-6, 0-6 defeat against Ramalingam Senathil Pronav in the first singles and Nadim Mollah conceded 1-6, 0-6 defeat against Dhamane Manosh Monoj in the second singles.
In the boys’ doubles, the Bangladeshi pair of Shajib Hossain and Jawad Mohammad Bhuiyan conceded 0-6, 0-6 defeat to Indian pair of Dhamane Manosh Monoj and Arnab Bijoy.
A total of 21 boys and 18 girls from seven Asian countries -– India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Bhutan, Pakistan, Nepal and hosts Bangladesh – are taking part in the first phase on round robin league basis in in two groups.
Later, top two teams of the both the boys’ and girls’ divisions will play the final round.
The boys’ matches are being held at Officers’ Club Tennis Court while that of girls at the National Tennis Complex and Dhaka Club Limited.
