The teenage swimmer on Tuesday said that she has a dream to represent the country in international arena and clinch gold medals for the country.
“I like swimming… want to represent Bangladesh in the international arena in the future and hoping to get a chance in the upcoming South Asian Games to be held in Nepal,” Junaina told UNB on Tuesday at Syed Nazrul Islam National Swimming Complex in Mirpur.
Junaina lives in London with her parents, and she has started swimming there. The British-Bangladeshi wonder kid also said that she has preferred to be a swimmer in spite of having many sports to choose from. She is taking part in the national competition for Bangladesh Navy.
“I have chosen swimming as my favourite sports because I love it,” Junaina said on Tuesday while waiting for taking part in another event.
“My parents always support me to do well in the pool. Like I do, they also have the dream to see me to represent my country in the international arena.”
Junaina took part in the contest against many swimmers who are older than her. But, she proved her worth in the pool while breaking the two old national records of 200-meter freestyle and 200-meter backstroke.
The 15-year-old kid has covered 200-meter of freestyle just in 02:19.89 to better the old record of covering the distance in 02:25.56 minutes while she completed the 200-meter backstroke in 02:40.75 minutes to better the previous mark of 02:44.80 minutes.
Junaina further said that everything was possible due to her hard work and determination.
“Usually, I work hard while take preparation and use to pass long time in the pool. I think there is no secret behind my performance,” Junaina further said.
“Micheal Phelps is my idol who wins many things through this sport. I also dream to do like him and eagerly waiting to win gold for Bangladesh in international arena.”
