The senior opener of Bangladesh was talking to reporters at the BCB Cricket Academy ground on Sunday afternoon when his teammates -– Moninul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim -- have already hammered centuries against visiting Zimbabwe on the first day of the second and final Test at Sher-e-Bangle National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
About the ongoing Test against Zimbabwe, he said, “The first hour was seen very difficult, but Mominul and Mushfiq did well for a comeback.”
He termed the centuries of Mominul and Mushfiq 'well-deserved', saying Mominul is probably the most hardworking player among them.
The left-handed opener thinks that the young players got chances to prove their worth in the absence of him and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.
He also expects that Shakib will return to cricket soon, recovering from injury.
Tamim refused to make comment on Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s political engagement as he brought nomination paper of Awami League for the next national election. “It’s a political matter. I don’t want to make any comment in this regard. I want to see him [Mashrafe] as my captain in the dressing room,” he said.
The West Indies are scheduled to visit Bangladesh to play a full-fledged series, involving two Tests, three ODIs and threeT20Is from November 22 to December 12.
Tamim suffered injury while batting against Sri Lanka during the Asia Cup opener in the United Arab Emirates, a game most probably will be remembered for his heroic return to bat with one hand to defend one ball on Bangladesh’s nine down.
